An Anchor for Your Soul

Have you ever felt like a small boat tossed about on an angry sea; that the storms of life were about to overwhelm you? You wouldn't be alone. It's in those times that what you really need is an anchor for your soul to keep you tethered, to keep you safe. During the HMS Bounty mutiny in 1789, Lieutenant William Bligh and loyal crew members were set adrift in a small open boat. They faced dangerous weather and treacherous seas as they navigated over 3,600 miles towards Timor. At one point, a fierce storm threatened to overturn their boat. Bligh's quick thinking led them to drop anchor, stabilising the boat against the waves, preventing them from capsizing. The use of the anchor turned out to be crucial in keeping them safe during their perilous journey, ultimately leading to their survival and safe arrival. Yep, anchors have a funny way of stopping us from capsizing, from perishing amidst life's storms. Hebrews 6:18-19 These two things cannot change: God cannot lie when he says something, and he cannot lie when he makes an oath. So these two things are a great help to us who have come to God for safety. They encourage us to hold on to the hope that is ours. This hope is like an anchor for us. It is strong and sure and keeps us safe. God's Word is true. Jesus came to save you. He died for your sins so that you may be forgiven. Believe in Him, and He'll fill you with His Holy Spirit to keep you safe throughout your journey. You will survive. You will arrive. Let that be an anchor for your soul, because … That's God's Word.
