ਅੰਦਰ ਦੀ ਪੀੜ — Punjabi Audio Story - Ranjodh Singh

from Radio Haanji Podcast · host Radio Haanji

ਅੰਦਰ ਦੀ ਪੀੜ — The Pain Within — is one of those rare Punjabi audio stories that begins in a child's memory and arrives somewhere deep inside you. The narrator grew up in a railway family. His father saw suicides on the tracks — a regular, terrible part of the job. As a child, the narrator overhearing his parents at night, piecing together fragments: who was it, where did they come from, why did they do it? Questions he could not fully answer. Not yet. Then one afternoon near the cremation ground, playing beneath a banyan tree, the children watched a passenger train stop suddenly. A young woman had jumped. Her red wedding bangles had not yet faded. She had been standing at a water pump nearby just minutes before — washing her face again and again. The narrator now wonders: was she washing away tears? Was she looking at those children hoping someone would ask if she was okay? Years later, reading Charlie Chaplin's writings, the narrator finds the words that unlock everything: in most cases of suicide, a person does not want to die. They want the pain inside them to die. This Punjabi kahani is the story of understanding that truth — and then going further, toward the idea that even in the deepest darkness, if you look carefully in every direction, there is always a small ray of light. And that ray is a path. And the path is walked one step at a time. Written by ਹਰਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਜਵੰਦਾ (Harpreet Singh Jawanda). Brought to Kitaab Kahani by Siddhu Sahab.
