Do Our Ancestors Protect Us? A Vision of Angels Around a Burning Home | LDS
from THINNING OF THE VEIL · host Tia Smith
Send us Fan MailDo our ancestors really watch over us — and can the people we've done temple work for become ministering angels? In this episode of Thinning of the Veil, host Tia Smith turns to Doctrine and Covenants 129–130, where the Lord teaches that the only angels who minister to this earth are those who have belonged to it — and then shares an unforgettable Latter-day Saint (LDS) testimony that brings the doctrine to life.During Utah's 2012 Wood Hollow Fire — which destroyed dozens of homes in San Pete County — Connie Barnes Measom's home in Indianola was left untouched while everything around it burned to the ground, as though a circle had been drawn around her yard. Overwhelmed with gratitude and even guilt that her home was spared when neighbors lost everything, Connie prayed to understand how it happened. She heard a voice say, "I will show you," and was given a vision: a great army of men in gray-white clothing encircling her home, backs to the flames, arms outstretched hand to hand. She came to understand they were her ancestors — those whose names she had labored for years to find and whose temple ordinances she had completed. It was, she realized, their gift of thanks.Tia frames the story with the reminder that miracles look different for each of us — honoring those whose homes were lost — while testifying that our ancestors are woven into the details of our lives, and that as we do temple work for more of them, the ministering of angels increases. She closes with President Joseph F. Smith's witness that our kindred who have gone before see us, know us, and love us now more than ever.Q: Who are the angels that minister to us? (LDS)A: Doctrine and Covenants 130:5 teaches that the angels who minister to this earth are those who have belonged to it — which is why so many angelic ministrations come from our own family members who have passed on.Q: Can the ancestors we do temple work for protect and help us?A: Connie Misum's testimony is that the men who encircled her home during the Wood Hollow Fire were ancestors whose temple ordinances she had completed — offering their protection as a gift of gratitude.Q: How can I become more aware of my ancestors' influence?A: Tia encourages us to pray for "eyes to see and ears to hear" — for the spirit of discernment — and teaches that as we do more temple and family history work, those ministrations become more evident in our lives. Our ancestors are involved in the details of our lives — and sometimes we're given eyes to see it.▶️ WATCH & LISTEN🎬 YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@thinningoftheveil🌐 Website: https://www.thinningoftheveil.com🎧 Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/thinning-of-the-veil/id1753511394🟢 Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/6jWCfMHkZXwnSwy2b98J4M🎵 Amazon Music: https://music.amazon.com/podcasts/a0a45561-d4c2-46d3-af8d-a1e967a21a25📖 BOOKPatterns of Revelation — Spiritual Foundations for Hearing God's Voice: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BW36MG9B📱 CONNECTInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/thinning.of.the.veilFacebook Group (Gathering of the Gatherers): https://www.facebook.com/groups/1429562078443774Facebook Page: https://www.facebook.com/thinningoftheveil💛 SUPPORT THE SHOWVenmo: https://account.venmo.com/u/thinningoftheveilPayPal: https://paypal.me/thinningoftheveil✉️ Have you had a thinning of the veil experience?
