In this Part 1 episode of Thinning of the Veil, host Tia Smith teaches the doctrine and pattern of the ministering of angels, so that for Latter-day Saints (LDS), we can recognize the help that's always near.Beginning with the scriptural exhortation to "deny not the gifts of God," including "the beholding of angels and ministering spirits" (Moroni 10; Omni 1), Tia teaches that these gifts can be sought and developed. She weaves together a striking chorus from recent general conference — Elder Holland ("we need to believe in angels… this is an urgent matter"), President Nelson ("what courage does it give you to know that angels really will help you"), and Elder Shane Bowen ("miracles have not ceased, angels are among us, and the heavens are open — oh, how open they are") — and teaches that the same three heavenly messengers who restored priesthood keys did so to gather Israel on both sides of the veil, and remain involved in the work.She lays out how to increase the likelihood of these experiences: gather Israel (John A. Widtsoe: "whoever seeks to help those on the other side receives help in return"), ask in faith, and pray for "eyes to see." She shows the ways angels minister — physical protection (Elder Bowen's daughter), help in discouragement (Elder Holland's "horses and chariots of fire"), and preparing us to ascend to Mount Zion — and teaches from Joseph F. Smith that the angels who minister to this earth are our own kindred and fellow servants.
