from The Mother Runners Podcast with Whitney Heins · host Miles with Moms
Send us Fan MailIn this episode of the Miles and Moms podcast, Shanna, Tricia, & Olivia (not Whitney, she couldn’t be there today) put each other in the hot seat asking the tough questions about topics like mom guilt, last race of your life choices, and unexpected lessons of being a mother runner. We share openly and honestly about what makes us feel guilty, give each other pep talks with the flip-side of the story, and laugh a lot (and possibly offend people who like to crochet—Tricia is sorry.)In all seriousness, we hope this episode makes you feel less alone with your inner-critic and more empowered to keep chasing your dreams!Chapters06:06 Mom Guilt: Balancing Running and Family Life12:00 Finding Time for Running Amidst Chaos18:03 Navigating Screen Time and Parenting Guilt21:11 Balancing Personal Goals and Parenting24:03 The Influence of Parental Role Models27:39 The Impact of Guilt on Parenting39:55 Controversies in Running Events44:39 Unexpected Lessons from Motherhood and Running56:35 Embracing the Chaos of Motherhood and Running01:00:05 The Coexistence of Identity: Motherhood and Running01:02:55 The Evolution of Running Goals01:05:57 The Joy of Running: Finding Fun in the Journey01:14:00 Community and Connection Through RunningKeywordsmoms, running, self-care, mom guilt, parenting, podcast, family, balance, screen time, mental health, parenting, personal goals, running, guilt, role models, bucket list races, motherhood, discipline, family, aspirations, running, motherhood, sustainability, nutrition, local food, post-run cravings, environmental impact, personal growth, community, aspirations, motherhood, running, personal growth, identity, community, mental health, parenting, life lessons, self-discovery, resilienceWhitney Heins is a mom of 2, a lifelong runner, a VDOT-certified running coach for moms who run, and founder of the resource, themotherrunners.com. When training for her first marathon as a mom, she found a dearth of information related to running and motherhood. She also felt extremely isolated as a new mom. As a former TV journalist and a freelance writer she decided to use her skills to fill the void with an online resource and community, called The Mother Runners. Whitney also recognized a need for run coaches who understood the demands of motherhood, so she also became a running coach—unearthing a passion for helping moms reap the rewards and empowerment of running. Coming out of a long injury cycle, she ran a 2:54 marathon and 1:20 half marathon in her 40s. She lives in Knoxville, TN with her husband, two kids, and three dogs.www.themotherrunners.comInstagram: @themotherrunnersYouTube: The Mother [email protected]
