No Disappearing Act: MEGAN COOKE on Motherhood, Marathons, and Never Giving Up
Send us Fan MailMost runners are told to wait until life gets easier before chasing big goals. Megan Cooke proves the opposite is true. In this conversation, the founder of Never Give Up coaching shares how she went from elite rowing and years of coaching to running sub-3 marathons as a mom of three, building a fast-growing coaching brand, and refusing to let motherhood erase her athletic identity. I get to pull back the curtain on Megan’s real life: three kids, three schools, endless car lines, late-night treadmill miles, and a training approach built on consistency, threshold work, and the courage to aim higher. You'll discover:🌀Why Megan stopped treating motherhood and ambition like an either-or decision🌀The training principles behind her Boston, London, and Cincinnati breakthroughs🌀How she built Never Give Up Coaching from a brand-new Instagram account to a thriving business in under a year🌀Why she believes moms should stop apologizing for wanting time to train🌀How HRT, perimenopause, and honest self-advocacy fit into the picture for women in their 40sHer message is clear: you do not need to disappear inside motherhood to be a good mom. This one is essential listening for moms who want to run faster without feeling guilty, athletes rebuilding after babies, and anyone who needs a reminder that your best race might still be ahead of you.TIMESTAMPS:00:31 — Parenting three kids03:45 — Running every day amid family life18:07 — Twelve marathons for self-empowerment30:53 — Coaching, mentorship, and “holding the mirror”32:35 — Letting go of shame around big goals34:11 — Pursuing your goals alongside your kids35:17 — The pressure to overcompensate after a long run37:32 — Modeling empowerment for your children38:44 — Being honest about fatigue and recovery59:36 — Make time, find support, and be brave THANK YOU, SPONSORS!:💗 GOODR functional, fashionable, fun, and affordable eyewear. CARRIE BRADSHAW: Double Hip Replacements & A Marathon World Record
Send us Fan MailCarrie Bradshaw did the impossible and she just set a world record for it. Carrie, a 45-year-old mom of two, aka on Instagram as "Bionic Runner Babe" for her titanium hips, defied medical odds to set the Guinness World Record for the fastest marathon by a female with bilateral hip replacements, clocking 3 hours, 42 minutes, and 31 seconds at the 2026 Houston Marathon. Diagnosed with congenital bilateral hip dysplasia in 2021, Carrie endured constant pain and was told by most surgeons she'd never run again, yet found hope in Dr. Gregory Stocks, who supported her return to racing after her hip replacements in November 2022 and April 2023. A pre-surgery veteran of over 60 half marathons and 10 full marathons with a personal best of 3:09, Bradshaw completed the Boston Marathon in 2025—just two years post-surgery—as her "victory lap," and her Houston time qualified her for Boston 2027, where she aims to chase her old PR. In this episode, Carrie shares:🌀How she decided to go the unconventional route of getting her hips replaced at such a young age for this surgery🌀What her return to running looked like🌀Her experience being coached by MEB!🌀The advice she wants other injured runners to hear and🌀How her decision to not give up on her dreams is changing lives around the world. TERA MOODY: Former Pro Runner REDEFINING SUCCESS as a Mother Runner
Send us Fan MailTera Moody was a stand-out runner as a kid. I’m talking state champ. Went on to run at Colorado as part of the national championship team. Placed 5th in the Olympic Trials marathon in 2008. Top ten in the Chicago Marathon, TWICE. Represented the US in Worlds. Has a lifetime PR of 2:30 in the marathon. You get the picture. But it hasn’t been all skittles and sunshine for Tera. She had a coach who was old-school and promoted unhealthy underfueling. As a mom of two, running would completely wipe her out. Mom guilt for running would steal the joy. And, at times, running turned into an unhealthy coping mechanism. But through all this, Tera has grown and learned so much and I’m so excited for her to share her insights with us. She’s incredible open about a lot of things such as:🌀What she saw in her kids that helped her overcome mom guilt🌀The biggest change she made to keep her energy and mileage up🌀Her genius idea for re-setting PRs as a mom and a master’s runner🌀And telltale signs that running is an unhealthy coping mechanism rather than a healthy lifestyle, and so much more. JACI SCHUERHOLZ: Losing My EGO to Find My JOY
Send us Fan MailDespite facing years of setbacks, countless medical consultations, a persistent cycle of injuries, managing 4 kids, and reaching the milestone of turning 40, Jaci Schuerholz made a courageous choice: she decided to stop searching for perfect solutions and simply start again. If you've battled injuries or health challenges, felt frustration with your body, experienced feelings of being lost in motherhood, lost sight of your self-worth, struggled with ego impeding your happiness, or been weighed down by mom guilt—this conversation is for you. I first connected with Jaci years ago when we were both grappling with persistent hamstring and quad injuries. Jaci's injury came shortly after she achieved a remarkable 2:52 at the Boston Marathon, just as she felt she was hitting her stride. Despite her efforts, answers continued to elude her. Jaci oscillated between the desire to run at her previous level and the temptation to give up completely. Ultimately, she chose to meet herself where she was, rediscovering the joy of the sport in the process. We discuss:🌀Her battle with injuries and trying to find an answer,🌀How she rediscovered her sense of self and self-worth in motherhood,🌀Her journey to find joy in running again,🌀 The prevalence of mom guilt in today’s society,🌀And reflections on our recent marathon experiences, which we just completed before this recording. AUTHOR HILDEE WEISS: It's Never TOO LATE to Change Your Life
Send us Fan MailMoms are notorious for putting themselves last. Hildee Weiss was the epitome of this. At 46, she was adevoted wife, mother, and grandmother, who moved through life feeling worn down, invisible, and convinced that transformation belonged to other people—thinner people, younger people, braver people. Then one ordinary day, she asked herself a question that would rewrite everything she believed about who she could become: What if I tried? What you are about to listen to today is the definition of inspiring—of someone who feels like it is too late or that change belongs to other people—taking the step and realizing, that yes, they can – you can—change your life. Hildee is the author of the book Embracing My Inner Athlete, published by Library Tales Publishing, out next month, where she shares her inspiring journey from a sedentary lifestyle to becoming an avid runner, completing numerous 5Ks, half marathons, Spartans, and trail races. Hildee and I discuss:🌀the importance of prioritizing health and wellness for moms,🌀emphasizing the need to pursue passions that bring purpose and fulfillment,🌀her experiences with injuries,🌀and the powerful mindset shift from feeling obligated to run to truly embracing the joy of movement. More than a running story, Hildee’s experience is a testament to second chances and the quiet, radical act of choosing yourself. For every woman who has ever felt stuck, sidelined, or “too late” to begin, her journey offers one powerful truth: You’re stronger than you think — and your next chapter can start with a single step. ALLY BRETTNACHER: Running's Role: From Punishment to Pride
Send us Fan MailRemember how running was a form of punishment as a kid? Talking during gym class? Run. Not listening when the soccer coach is talking? Run. That is honestly how I got into running. Because I would end up running all of soccer practice, I figured I might as well do the sport my dad wanted me to do anyway. Running was once a form of punishment for Ally Brettnacher, too. And then that evolved into punishing her body for unhealthy choices or the way she felt about it as a young adult But as life went on, her relationship with running changed. And instead of being a source of punishment, it evolved into a source of pride and celebration--and an example she can set for her kids. In this episode, Ally is open and honest about her journey. We talk about 🌀 how she ensures her relationship with running sets a positive example for her girls 🌀 how she keeps running fun while also seeking to challenge herself and get better🌀 her passion for supporting Ainsley's Angels and the running community, and so much more. You may recognize Ally's name: she is not just a dedicated runner and mom of two; she’s also the driving force behind Athlete Bouquets, a unique gift concept filled with goodies for runners, and the host of the Finish Lines and Milestones Podcast which is also in the Sandy Boy Productions family—just like this podcast. We begin by learning more about Laura Filla, a mom of two, and her running journey. Laura's running story began in middle school thanks to a nudge from her mom to join the track team. ANDI RIPLEY: Meeting Disappointment with Gratitude, Not Anger
Send us Fan MailAndi Ripley should be angry. But she is filled with gratitude. Andi has a lot of running talent and was just getting started when she suffered serious injuries that have since stunted her competitive running career. But Andi was able to see the beauty in this disappointment and re-focus her priorities. Starting her running journey at the young age of 8, Andi embarked on a competitive running career that carried her through college. After welcoming her first son, she embraced stroller running and unstructured training, making an impressive marathon debut with a time of 2:55—only to later discover she was pregnant. After the birth of her second son, she became coached by her husband, Zach, also an incredibly fast runner, and achieved a remarkable 2:43 Olympic Trials qualifying marathon time—with bilateral hip labrum tears. Andi ran the Olympic Trials and then underwent surgeries for both hips but has battled injury ever since. You might think she’d feel frustration over her untapped potential, but Andi chooses to view her challenges differently. In this episode, Andi shares how she: 🌀Embraces the beauty of her need to pivot, shifting her focus from personal records to helping others find joy in movement through her coaching and support.🌀How she navigated this transition, honing in on what she loves about running, and replicating it in other faces of life. 🌀Achieving “unhurried” healing.Alongside her husband Zach, both Olympic Trials marathon qualifiers, Andi co-hosts The A to Z Running podcast, which I highly recommend. EP 1: AUDRA MCPARTLAND: Advocating for Your Health
Send us Fan MailAudra McPartland, a dedicated runner and mother of four, PE teacher, and soon-to-be masters runner, was on fire running personal records in several distances going from a 23-minute 5K to sub-18, a 1:42 half marathon to 1:20, and a 3:42 marathon to 2:59. But then she started to not feel like herself. Her build up for the New York Marathon was full of fatigue and like she was running through quicksand. It took a lot of self-advocacy in the healthcare system for Audra to get to the bottom of what was going on--and get back to feeling (and running!) her best. Audra shares her lessons and how she is now aiming to reach her peak potential past 40.Audra also shares how she’s committed to inspire children and other moms to stay active, her secret to balancing training and her life as a working mom, and how she’s harnessed the power of mindset to overcome obstacles.
