Answered Prayers and Divine Security: 1 Samuel 1–2 and John 10 (Day 138)

from The Bible in a Year Podcast with Scott Purcell

Where do you turn when your soul is deeply distressed? Today we begin 1 Samuel with the moving story of Hannah, a barren woman enduring relentless mockery. In her deep grief, she pours her heart out to God at the Tabernacle, promising to dedicate her child to His service. God answers her cry, giving birth to Samuel, the prophet who will transition Israel into the era of kings. In the New Testament, Jesus walks through the Temple during winter and faces intense interrogation. He offers an unbreakable promise of security to those who belong to Him, declaring that His true sheep are held so securely by the Father that absolutely nothing can tear them away.Today’s Scripture:📖 1 Samuel 1:1–2:26 – Hannah prays in bitterness of soul for a son, and Eli the priest initially mistakes her fervor for drunkenness. God remembers Hannah, and she gives birth to Samuel, eventually presenting him at Shiloh to be raised in the house of the Lord. The reading includes Hannah’s Song, a prophetic poem celebrating how God reverses human fortunes, contrasted immediately with the wicked behavior of Eli’s biological sons.📖 John 10:22–42 – Jesus is in Jerusalem during Hanukkah (the Feast of Dedication). Surrounded by hostile leaders demanding a straight answer, Jesus points to His works and states, "I and the Father are one." The religious leaders pick up stones for blasphemy, but Jesus escapes across the Jordan, where many remember John the Baptist’s words and believe in Him.📖 Psalm 63:1–11 – A classic psalm of David written while he was fleeing in the Wilderness of Judah. It is an intense cry of spiritual thirst: "O God, you are my God; earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you." David resolves to satisfy his soul by meditating on God's past faithfulness through the watches of the night.RESOURCES & READ-ALONG📺 Watch on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLYKi8-_5xHGL_nFAZOthHtZhcb4CqW4ZF📖 Follow the Text (LEB): https://biblia.com/books/leb/🗓️ Download the Full Plan: https://www.biblica.com/resources/reading-plans/CONNECT & SUPPORT📧 Questions?
