I once heard of a church that said they wouldn’t perform any more weddings until their denomination allowed them to marry same-sex couples. The pastor claimed the church had chosen “to stand not for issues, but for people.” But what they’ve really chosen is to stand against the Word of God. They’re placing themselves in direction opposition to God and his Word by condoning and celebrating sinful behavior. Advocating for sin and trying to help people live a life of sin isn’t standing for people—it’s really standing against them. Sin always leads to brokenness and pain.
