Jenita Pace was in such a deep depression that she attempted suicide and ended up hospitalized for ten days. God’s miracle was that her husband forgot his pager and went home to retrieve it, only to stop Jenita from taking her life moments before! “Town Destroyer.” It sounds like a verdict, and for a lot of people it becomes instant proof that George Washington was a monster. We take that claim head-on and rebuild the story from the ground up, starting with what the Seneca title meant in its own cultural setting and why the nickname is tied to the Washington family before the Revolution even begins.From there, we zoom out to the bigger issue: how modern ideology can turn history into a single, predictable script where one side is always innocent and the other side is always guilty. The American Revolution does not fit that mold. We talk through the Iroquois Confederacy and its internal split, why tribal alliances shifted between Britain and the Americans, and why it matters that many Native nations fought alongside Washington and provided intelligence, troops, and scouting that shaped the war.We also confront the brutal reality of frontier warfare, including raids and massacres that targeted civilians, and we explain why Washington’s 1779 order to General Sullivan is presented as a response aimed at enemy villages involved in repeated attacks. You may still wrestle with the morality of what happened, but you will at least be working with the whole timeline instead of a slogan.Then we switch gears to a question we hear all the time: if the founders were influenced by Christianity, why doesn’t the US Constitution quote the Bible? Sermon OverviewScripture Passage: Matthew 20:1-15Fairness is a wonderful human attribute we learn about when we’re young and demand of each other as we grow.In Matthew 20:1-15, Jesus shares the parable of the vineyard workers. The owner of the vineyard rises early to hire laborers, then adds hired laborers at various times throughout the day. At the end of the day, he pays his laborers all the same wages.This may not seem “fair” in our human understanding, but we must remember that God is not fair, but He is good.First, this passage shows us that it’s always too soon to quit, but never too late to start.Though it is better for us to start serving God early in life, it is never too late; He calls us to the vineyard, even at the eleventh hour.Second, if we bargain with God, we will cheat ourselves. Matthew 20:2 reveals that the early workers had haggled with the owner for more money until they finally came to an agreement. Yet, they are surprised when the owner offers the same wage to the later laborers.Third, it is wise to let God keep the books; if we try to keep a record of our service, we run the risk of taking credit we don’t deserve.Fourth, don’t look for fairness; ask for mercy. Fairness is based on the idea that we are owed something, but God does not owe us anything. As sinners, He deals with us on the basis of justice and mercy, and if we ask for justice, we will get exactly what we deserve. Instead, we should beg for mercy.Finally, another’s blessing is never our own loss; just because the vineyard owner blessed the later workers doesn’t mean the early workers lacked. Likewise, when we see God bless others “more” than He blesses us, we are not losing anything.Adrian Rogers says, “We will be much happier in this life if we take our eyes off of our brothers and sisters, put our eyes on the Lord Jesus Christ, and be grateful for what He does.”Apply it to your lifeHave you been called to the vineyard to serve our Lord Jesus Christ? It’s never too late to start. If you have served Christ for a while now, remember there is no seniority in the kingdom of God. Welcome your brothers and sisters in gratitude and rejoice in each other’s blessings.

This is Ken Ham, an Aussie transplant with a passion for God’s Word and the gospel. Years ago an earthquake, followed by a tsunami, devastated Japan. Debris was captured by ocean currents and washed up on the west coast of North America for years—bringing some voyagers with it! Nearly three hundred species not found in North America were found living in the debris. This relatively small-scale event points to a much larger event in the past. The flood of Noah’s day would’ve ripped up forests around the world. All this debris would’ve formed floating mats of vegetation which would’ve been caught by ocean currents. These mats would’ve helped distribute plants and animals around the world after the flood. This is Ken Ham, author and speaker on Genesis and the Bible’s reliability. Have you ever grown a garden? It can be frustrating work fighting off the weeds and insects. Sometimes it even seems like nature is against us, making our jobs more difficult. Well, that’s not how God originally designed it to be. In God’s “very good” creation, Adam’s work of caring for creation was a joyful task. But, after sin, God cursed the ground, so it now produces thorns and thistles. The Bible tells us all of creation groans because of sin. But there’s hope! Because of Jesus’ sacrifice for us, someday those who trust in him will dwell for eternity in a new heaven and new earth where the curse will be no more. Dig Deeper Why Did God Make Weeds? In this teaching you will see the real choice translators face: keep the feel of the original, or keep the exact meaning and explain the play in a footnote. You will walk through Babel and balal, Isaiah’s alliteration, Jeremiah’s almond tree, and a modern version that tries to keep New Testament poetry rhyming.
