Arabische landen maken plan voor Gaza & Mexico vreest Amerikaanse interventie

In reactie op Trumps plan om de Gaza-strook etnisch te zuiveren, komen de landen van de Arabische Liga vandaag in een spoedoverleg bijeen om gezamenlijk een alternatief toekomstplan voor Gaza te formuleren. Een toekomst waarin de Gazanen in het gebied kunnen blijven, is het uitgangspunt. Intussen oogt het wapenstilstand tussen Israël en Hamas uiterst fragiel, nadat Israël een nieuwe blokkade heeft ingesteld die alle humanitaire hulp tegenhoudt. Over de situatie in Gaza en de kansen van de Arabische landen om tegenwicht te bieden aan Trump spreken we met Midden-Oosten-correspondent Ruth Vandewalle en met onderzoeker aan de Universiteit Utrecht, Peter Malcontent. (16:17) Mexico vreest Amerikaanse interventie De VS heft vanaf vandaag 25 procent extra belasting op alle importen uit Mexico. De reden is dat het land volgens Donald Trump te weinig doet tegen de smokkel van fentanyl. De Mexicaanse autoriteiten zijn op hun beurt bezig met een grote klopjacht op de drugskartels.
