Are we Ready to Live the Word of God?
from Sunday Homilies with the Redemptorists · host Novena Church
In this third Sunday in ordinary time, we observe the Sunday of the Word of God, introduced by Pope Francis in 2019 to celebrate, study, and share the Word of God. This observance aims to deepen our relationship with the Bible and highlight the living nature of God’s Word in the Church. Luke’s Gospel, addressed to “Theophilus” (meaning “beloved of God” and by extension, to us, God’s beloved), relates the revelation of Jesus of Nazareth as the fulfilment of God’s promises. Isaiah prophesied the Messiah would bring good news, healing, and liberation. Jesus’ pronouncement: “today, this Scripture passage is fulfilled in your hearing”, awakened the people’s hope in God's promises. Fr Simon relates his own personal encounter with the powerful Word of God that transformed his search for God and gave direction to his vocation. He encourages each of us to live the word of God through our active participation in the Eucharist each week. Let us ask God to let His life-giving Word work in our hearts to transform and bring healing and meaning to our lives and the church. - Sunday Homily by Fr. Simon Tan, C.Ss.R. (26 January 2025)
