Are You Training Your Abs Correctly? Part 1
from The Health and Sport Show
Today Tom will be talking to you about the much discussed subject of abdominal training. In our quest for a flat stomach, that desirable six pack, or simply as part of our overall core fitness regime, crunches and sit ups are invariably included. Tom is here to challenge the accepted wisdom of these workout favourites. KEY TAKEAWAYS There is no one main core muscle. They are all important to core strength. Do not attempt to lift any loads while doing abdominal exercises. You are risking all sorts of injuries by doing so. Do not suck your tummy in while doing these exercises. Stability affects how mobile we are. Steady and solid surfaces increase the transfer of power. Your lumber spine is this stability. The function of the rectus abdominis (abs) is to keep your abdominal contents inside your body when its under load. BEST MOMENTS ‘As you may have guessed, I have an issue with these exercises. I think not only are they potentially harmful but also not quite fit for purpose considering the much better alternatives that are out there.’ ‘Have you ever seen a man or woman with a 28in waist picking up an atlas stone, or taking part in a strong man competition?’ ‘It’s easier to jump off of a hard floor than it is to jump out of a sand pit because the hard floor is obviously very stable and we can transfer power off of that. Out of the soft sand, some of the power will dissipate as it gives way.’ ‘If you want “shredded abs” then its more nutrition than anything that you need to do just as well as your training.’ VALUABLE RESOURCES https://youtube.com/channel/UCQXAka99a6MdZexeEJaMZbAhttps://m.facebook.com/elevatehealthuk/https://www.elevatehealthuk.com/https://instagram.com/elevate_healthuk?utm_medium=copy_link ABOUT THE HOST TOM BUTTERFIELD I have always been interested in sports, unfortunately injuries and poor training decisions curtailed my dream of becoming a professional football player.
