Arlin Buyert Got Kicked Out Of Lansing Prison Arlin Buyert grew up on a farm in Iowa, he flew planes over Vietnam during the war and until recently he taught poetry at the Kansas penitentiary in Lansing, KS. Arlin is also a published poet and has come to understand in his own life and in his work that redemption starts with an understanding of and having an outlet for one's emotions. When Arts In Prison provided him an opportunity to help others in great need of that outlet for their emotions he grabbed that opportunity and created a program that has published books and performed in public the poetry of the inmates at Lansing. Most important is that having the outlet of the written word has helped many inmates heal their own wounds and refrain from expressing their frustration and anger in a physical way. Just a few weeks ago Arlin he could no longer teach poetry at Lansing and a book of the prisoner's poetry that had just been published could not be released. This sudden ousting of Arlin seems to be a combination of miscommunication and a no tolerance policy by the prison authorities. Today host Jeff Humfeld…
