Derzeit, so Jendis, sei der beste Schutz vor Armut, in eine wohlhabende Familie hineingeboren zu werden. In unserem Live-Gespräch auf der herCAREER Expo fragt Moderatorin Kristina Appel unter anderem: Was muss passiere, damit sich das ändert? Zentrale Themen dieser Episode sind: 
 Armut ist strukturell – nicht individuell. Sie ist tief im System verankert ist und beruht nicht auf persönlichem Versagen. Frauen sind überproportional von Armut betroffen – durch unterbrochene Erwerbsbiografien, Care-Arbeit und Teilzeitbeschäftigung. „Wir haben eine gut ausgebildete Gruppe in Deutschland, die wenig arbeitet – und das sind Frauen.“ Narrative über Armut sind falsch: Jendis kritisiert gängige Vorurteile über „faule“ Arme und fordert mehr Empathie und Faktenorientierung, denn ein Leben in Armut ist "eines der anstrengendsten Leben, die man führen kann.“ Arbeit allein schützt nicht vor Armut: „Wir haben 800.000 Menschen, die arbeiten und trotzdem aufstocken müssen.“ Darum fordert Jendis: ”Löhne müssen armutsfest sein.” Soziale Mobilität ist gering, was dazu führt, dass Wohlstand in Deutschland stark vom Elternhaus abhängig ist – ein strukturelles Problem. Jendis fordert mehr Gerechtigkeit durch politische Reformen: „Ich bin der festen Überzeugung, dass auch wohlhabende Menschen mehr davon haben, wenn es weniger arme Menschen gibt.“ einen Perspektivwechsel: Sirkka Jendis appelliert an jeden Einzelnen: „Armut ist so viel mehr als ein Mangel an Geld – es ist ein Mangel an sozialer Teilhabe.“ Armut kein Randthema ist – sondern ein gesamtgesellschaftliches Problem, das uns alle betrifft.
