As Good As...

from A Constant Becoming · host AConstantBecoming

Can you avoid comparing your reality to your predictions? Can you see the good in today even when it isn't all that you want? Can you understand that your intentions are a way of steering your path not destinations unto themselves? Can you take peace in the fact that you are sheltered, treasured and loved?Comparisons are vital to survival and yet they are difficult to address. We need to know whether something is too hot to touch or if the water is too cold to jump into. But when we are comparing reality with hope, it rarely fully measures up.It’s so very easy to get locked in to an outcome and define anything less as a disappointment. I think there are two issues in that. The first is your eyes on the prize can miss what is happening along the way. And the second is that what you planned may not be what you need to take the next step. Indeed, the hoped for outcome often lacks a prompt to keep moving. It’s a resting place rather than a spot along the journey. As you read this I wonder:* What have you locked in on in terms of an outcome? Can you release it just a little?* Can you realize that we are always moving on and set your guideposts accordingly?* And the entire way, can you be secure that you are loved, not by all, but always by enough?I now see the focus on just one outcome, from how a meeting will go to the shape of a relationship, as a trap. It takes hundreds or thousands of wonderful experiences and makes them “not enough.” Today, can you be willing to accept that less than you imagined is often still amazing? This is a public episode.
