For this episode, we are introducing you to an amazing human, Nat Heath. We were fortunate enough to meet Nat many years ago through our triathlon circles and quickly realised we grew up very close in geography between Taree and Forster. It was an absolute pleasure to invite Nat to talk on the Waffle about all things running. He is about to venture into a 100 km run… But it’s not your typical 100 km run! This has been organised by Nat himself for NAIDOC week and in support of the Indigenous Marathon Foundation. Nat is an aboriginal boy who grew up in Forster, but as you will hear in the podcast - this move holds a lot of history. He speaks so beautifully about his story, what his life was like as an aboriginal in his community, what running means to him and how what he is aiming for moving forward. He shares some incredible stories, recounts the trauma that past generations have experienced and provides the most incredibly pragmatic insights into not how we can help, but how we can empower. If you are in Newcastle on the 12th of July please make your way down to support this great effort. You don’t have to do the full 100 km (although our Co-founder Dan has already agreed to do at least 20km). And if you can’t run, then come down and cheer on or donate to the Indigenous Marathon Foundation. It has been an honour to cover topics such as these during this time. Having heard his story and reflected on what we can do better is something that we feel really privileged to do. His learnings, insights and pragmatic recommendations are going to resonate with so many of you. Enjoy!
