We begin by reading the whole prologue to John's Gospel which sets out the divine origins of Jesus. He is the Word, or Logos, being with God from the beginning, acting as both the Creator and the light of humanity. John the Baptist and the Apostles, also bear witness to Jesus in the same terms. The episode examines Jesus' role  within the Trinity, emphasizing his place as God's ultimate revelation, bridging between the realms of divine and human and bringing us a living experience of God's justice, mercy and love.
