Edgar Andrews’ Onefootinglory Podcast

Old men are often said to have ”one foot in the grave” but those whose trust is wholly in Jesus Christ for time and eternity are not looking forward to the grave but to glory, for the Bible says that to be ”absent from the body” is to be ”present with the Lord”. At the age of 87, therefore, I have chosen this name for my new podcast which will feature videos of talks, comments and lectures about the Bible and science and also Bible expositions.

AUDIO; MADE IN GOD'S IMAGE, WHAT IT MEANS TO BE HUMAN

This lecture explores the biblical concept that humans are specially created in the image and likeness of God, drawing on Genesis and a clear illustration to show what "image" means. It highlights three shared attributes—spirituality, the mind, and language—and explains how these set humanity apart from animals, carry moral responsibility, and point to our unique role and destiny.

MADE IN GOD'S IMAGE; WHAT MAKES MAN UNIQUE?

This lecture explores the biblical concept that humans are specially created in the image and likeness of God, drawing on Genesis and a clear illustration to show what "image" means. It highlights three shared attributes—spirituality, the mind, and language—and explains how these set humanity apart from animals, carry moral responsibility, and point to our unique role and destiny.

AUDIO; WHY MAN IS GOD'S IMAGE

In this lecture we explore the biblical concept that humans are created in the image and likeness of God. We read Genesis 1 and explain what "image of God" means. Using a baby-and-doll illustration, we shows that humans share certain attributes with God—especially spirituality, mind, and language—while remaining distinct from animals. The talk highlights the implications of this identity: human dignity, moral responsibility, stewardship over creation, and awareness of death and judgement. Throughout the UK holiday months of July and August all episodes will be podcasts from earlier years republished with AI enhancement of the audio track.

AUDIO; CHOOSE TODAY! JOSHUA'S FINAL CHALLENGE TO ISRAEL (Jud. 1)

The book of Judges records the chaotic period Israel's history that followed the death of Joshua, during which the nation entered a period of cyclic rejection of the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob to worship the evil Canaanite deities. But true to His promises, YAHWEH kept Israel from spiritual disaster by sending "Judges" who restored the nation to genuine faith following each period of apostasy until the nation installed a King, who was a "type" of the promised Messiah. We draw the unmistakable lessons for the churches today.

AUDIO; CHRIST'S GLORIOUS GIFTS TO SAVED SINNERS

Revisiting Luke 15's parable of the prodigal son, we examine the symbolism of the four gifts father bestows on his shamed and repentant son when he returns in humility to cast himself on his father's mercy. We examine these four gifts; the robe of royalty; the ring of authority, sandals (worn only by the privileged), and the fatted calf (killed only when the firstborn son marries). We see how these gifts foreshadow the spiritual riches conferred upon all who trust savingly in Christ ... the robe of Christ's righteousness; the spiritual wedding-ring that unites us to Christ; the sandals that denote our walk with Christ; and the faith by which we feed upon Him daily.

Note; a previous episode was irretrievably corrupted but this episode repeats the lost content and thus becomes the first in the new series on the Book of Judges. The book of Judges records the chaotic period Israel's history that followed the death of Joshua, during which the nation entered a period of cyclic rejection of the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob to worship the evil Canaanite deities. AUDIO; GOD RULES IN THE KINGDOMS OF MEN

Throughout our study of the Book of Esther we have insisted that its chief spiritual message (and thus the reason for its inclusion in the Bible) is that God is sovereign over the history of mankind ... "The Most High rules in the kingdom of men" (Dan. 4:32). In this next-to-last episode we underline this conclusion by revisiting three separate passages in the Book which illustrate and confirm our assertions and point out how they apply to us today.

AUDIO; THE POVERTY THAT MAKES US RICH

Genuine Christians have the unique ability to be poor and rich at the same time. We are speaking, of course, about spiritual entities, not material ones. We insert the word "genuine" because in every age there are nominal believers who have no personal knowledge of God. This podcast demonstrates that God sent the prophet Isaiah to expose the spiritual bankruptcy of ancient Israel, call them to repentance, and show them what it means to be a true believer (Isa 66:1-4). This passage speaks powerfully to us today when nominal Christianity abounds in our churches and points the way back to genuine faith.

AUDIO; PROPHECY PROVES THAT JESUS IS THE MESSIAH

We revisit the account of Jesus' triumphal entry into Jerusalem, humbly seated on a donkey, and show how it was predicted in detail by old testament prophecy, proving that the Rabbi Jesus of Nazareth was indeed the long promised Messiah. In this sermon we discover seven such predictions that not only demonstrate the reliability of old testament prophecy but also glorify Jesus as the prophet, priest, and king who came into the world to seek and save lost sinners. The message highlights that this historic event lead toward the cross. the resurrection, how Jesus’ humble kingship ultimately triumphs over sin and death, and eternal life for all who trust in Christ.

AUDIO; HOW TO ABOUND IN THE LORD'S WORK

We must "be always abounding in the work of the Lord" (1 Cor. 15:58) but how exactly do we do that? Paul tells us in 1 Corinthians 15–16. Explaining the seamless transition between these two chapters, Paul urges believers to translate the hope of resurrection into steadfast, doctrinally faithful action, using the collection for the Judean churches (to which the Corinthians had promised but failed to contribute) as a concrete example of obedient, proportionate giving. The sermon emphasises that the recipients of salvation by grace are obliged to to serve Christ as Lord.

AUDIO; PAUL PREACHES CHRIST TO ALL AND SO MUST WE

Though under house arrest for two years (Acts 28:22–31), Paul proclaims Christ and the kingdom “with all boldness and without hindrance.” Luke deliberately leaves Acts open‑ended (for example, there is no reference to Paul's final trial and execution) to show that the mission to the ends of the earth is 'unfinished business' and we today must imitate the Apostle in his unavoidable commitment to preach the gospel to all. This commitment is demonstrated in our passage as Paul meets with Jewish leaders in Rome, systematically proves that Jesus is the Christ from the Law and the Prophets, and explains that because many Jews reject the message, God’s salvation is now going to the Gentiles.

AUDIO; PAUL CHOSEN TO TAKE THE GOSPEL TO THE GENTILES (Gal. 7)

The outcome of the Council of Jerusalem was to vindicate totally the gospel that Paul preached among the Gentiles. Believers in Christ, whether Jew or Gentile, are justified by their faith and neither the requirements nor the provisions of the old covenant apply to them. Circumcision and “the law of Moses” have no place in the scheme of salvation, except as pictures of the spiritual truth revealed in Christ. Paul and the leaders of the Jerusalem church agreed to a division of work; Paul was to evangelize the Gentiles and they the Jews. This agreement, however, was no parting of the ways. It was based upon a common gospel, fellowship in Christ, and mutual respect. Above all, it stemmed from the recognition that their diverse

AUDIO; THE BIBLE ON TRIAL, THE COUNCIL OF JERUSALEM (Gal. 6)

We gather with Paul at he Council of Jerusalem as he confronts his Judaizing opponents, who sought to bind Gentile believers to the Mosaic covenant. (Galatians 2:3-5, Chapter 6 of "Free in Christ"). The Apostle contends powerfully that adding circumcision and works to the gospel of free grace threatens the new covenant and the doctrine of salvation by faith alone. He uses his Gentile companion Titus as living proof that believers are accepted for their faith in Christ without submitting to the law of Moses.

AUDIO; THE BIBLE NEVER MAKES MISTAKES

Do the Bible's autographs ever make mistakes? Some would say yes, arguing that Paul's account of his post-conversion travels in Galatians 2 contradict that found in Acts 9 to 12. Galatians records three visits to Jerusalem including the first church Council while Acts describes four. Does it matter? Hugely, for it determines our doctrine of Scripture. Are the Scriptures "breathed out by God" (2 Tim. 3:16) and thus infallible or ultimately the work of their human authors? What seems at first a simple historical narrative, our passage today has a fundamental effect on our theology. Paul explains why no contradiction exists.

AUDIO; BEWARE PERVERTED GOSPELS, THEY CANNOT SAVE YOUR SOUL

This third reading from the book "Free in Christ" covers Galatians chapters 2 and 3, where Paul denounces perversions of the gospel and those who peddle them. These "different gospel", he.warns the Galatians, are not gospels at all but pose the danger of apostasy. This episode, therefore, emphasizes the uniqueness and divine revelation of the gospel, the call in the grace of Christ and the need to please God rather than men.  The apostle’s purpose in writing Galatians is to restore the churches to a sound, Christ-centered faith. (Revised frm an old reading with AI enhancd audio track and transcript).

Based on old readings from the book "Free in Christ", now re-edited and with AI-enhanced audio tracks, we begin a new short series on Paul's Epistle to the Galatians. In this podcast we discover the foundations of the Epistle by showing that Paul's gospel is a life-changing message of God's grace to helpless sinners, containing seven key "ingredients"; grace, peace, Christ-centeredness, atonement by Christ's death and resurrection, deliverance from guilt and the power of sin, God’s sovereignty, and God's  glory ... all mediated to us by the Holy Spirit under the new covenant.

AUDIO; IS REALITY REAL? THE EVER PRESENT MIND OF GOD

Chapter 10 of "What is Man? Adam, alien or ape?" examines whether reality exists independently of the mind, using a house-and-realtor analogy to explore anti-realist views and George Berkeley's theistic solution that reality persists in the mind of God. It argues that science presupposes an objective universe and considers how Berkeley’s ideas support that presupposition. The chapter then shifts to the question of a biblical worldview, defending divine inspiration, the unity of Old and New Testaments, fulfilled prophecy, historical evidence (including the resurrection), and the claim that the Bible provides a coherent, warranted perspective on reality.

AUDIO; BODY, MIND AND SOUL, THE FOUNDATIONS OF BIBLICAL BELIEF

This episode begins a short series devoted to the underlying ideas on which biblical faith rests, and consists of selected readings from the author's book "What is Man? Adam, alien or ape?" Published some years ago these readings have been rejuvenated with the help of AI, not to change content but to vastly improve audio clarity and add transcripts. This episode combines two of the original podcasts to help us understand the issues underlying the reliability of the Bible by use of a novel analogy in which the human physical brain and mind are represented respectively by a house and its occupant.

AUDIO; MISSION ACCOMPLISHED, PAUL EVANGELIZES ROME

Following Paul’s final journey to Rome, after months on Malta, several island "hops", and warm hospitality from believers at Puteoli, Paul arrives in Rome itself (Acts 28:11–22). Detained with few restrictions under house arrest, he is free to receive visitors and explain his mission to Rome’s Jewish leaders, thus encouraging local believers and evangelize enqirers. Perhaps fearing a further assassination attempt by the Jews, the authorities place him in solitary confinement, where he uses his chains to witness to guards and spread the gospel in Caesar's otherwise inaccessible household. Thus he fulfils God's promise that he would preach to Kings and gentiles as well as to the house of Israel (Acts 9:15).

AUDIO; SHOULD WE PREACH THE GOSPEL TO CHRISTIANS?

Are we wasting our time if we preach the gospel to Christians? Could that time be better spent going out into the streets to preach to non believers? If you answer "yes" then most churches wouldn't meet on Sundays since their congregations are already saved! No, we should preach the good news to believers and Paul tells us why in 1 Corintthians 15:1-9, where he warns us against false or "nominal" faith and emphasises the need for constant spiritual renewal through the Word and the Spirit. In doing so he shows how the gospel’s essence is grounded on three historical facts—the virgin birth, the crucufixion and the resurrection, arguing that these historical facts are authenticated by fulfilled Old Testament prophecy and the eyewitness testimony of the New Testament.

1 Corinthians 13:8–13 enlarges upon Paul’s claim that biblical love never fails since it is the divine love shed abroad in a believer's heart by the Holy Spirit. He explains why some spiritual gifts (like prophecies, tongues, and special knowledge) became progressively redundant as Scripture was completed while others (like evangelists, pastors and teachers) remain until Christ returns. But only one gift, love, also remains eternally, which is why it is the greatest thing in time and eternity.

Our previous podcast on 1 Corinthians 13:7 considered the first two characteristics of love, namely that love 'bears all things' and 'believes all things'. Here we complete the verse by explaining why and how 'Love hopes all things' and 'Love endures all things.' We distinguish two kinds of hope—'happy' hope (hoping that things will turn out well) and godly hope (future certainty grounded in God’s promises and the work of the Holy Spirit)—and shows how the believer’s hope in eternal life shapes his/her present conduct. The sermon also explains how love for self and for God empowers Christians to endure suffering, exemplified by the book of Job, Romans, 2 Corinthians 4:16–18, Paul's letter to Titus, and 1 Peter.

AUDIO; HOW LOVE FUFILS THE LAW OF CHRIST

In the previous episode of this short series on 1 Corinthians 13, we considered six things that biblical love can never do. We now turn to four things that, according to the Apostle Paul, love always does do, namely, it "bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things and edures all things" (v.7). Although the statement is brief its content is profound and here we shall only have time to consider how the first two of these characteristics of love fulfil the law of Christ (Gal. 6:2). The other two will be dealt with in the next episode. Here we explain how Christian love ‘‘bears all things’’ by lifting and sharing the burdens of others and ‘‘believes all things’’ by trusting God’s truth, the Scriptures.

Here we explain how Christian love ‘‘bears all things’’ by lifting and sharing the burdens of others and ‘‘believes all things’’ by trusting God’s truth, the Scriptures.

ABOUT THIS SHOW

Old men are often said to have ”one foot in the grave” but those whose trust is wholly in Jesus Christ for time and eternity are not looking forward to the grave but to glory, for the Bible says that to be ”absent from the body” is to be ”present with the Lord”. At the age of 87, therefore, I have chosen this name for my new podcast which will feature videos of talks, comments and lectures about the Bible and science and also Bible expositions.
