August 11 | God Is Watching

from The Bible in a Year: Daily Reading & Devotion · host Kevin Harrison

Today’s reading from Psalm 81–83 and Romans 11:19–36 invites us to reflect on the reality that God remains fully aware of His people, their choices, and the ways power and responsibility are used. Both passages remind us that spiritual formation includes learning to live with a growing awareness that God sees clearly, judges rightly, and remains faithful even when circumstances seem unresolved. In Psalm 81–83, Israel is repeatedly confronted with the importance of listening to God, walking in obedience, and remembering who they are under His authority. Psalm 82 places particular attention on leaders who had been entrusted with responsibility but distorted justice, reminding God’s people that authority was never meant to serve personal advantage and that every leader ultimately stands accountable before Him.In Romans 11, Paul warns Gentile believers not to become arrogant about their place in God’s redemptive work. Their response should be marked by humility, awareness, and gratitude because they stand by faith rather than personal superiority. Paul’s words remind us that calling should never produce pride, but should continually form a posture of dependence on the mercy and wisdom of God.Together, these passages invite us to reflect on what it means to live knowing that God sees what is happening around us and within us. They encourage us to remain aware of His presence when injustice seems unresolved, to resist the temptation to believe power removes accountability, and to trust that the God whose wisdom is beyond our understanding remains attentive to every person, every decision, and every hidden place.
