August 16 | Keep Your Heart Turned Toward the Lost

from The Bible in a Year: Daily Reading & Devotion · host Kevin Harrison

Today’s reading from Psalm 94–96 and Romans 15:14–33 invites us to think about the movement of God’s truth beyond ourselves. Both passages remind us that God’s people are formed over time not merely to receive His goodness, but to live with an awareness that His glory and His salvation are meant to be known among people who have not yet recognized Him.In Psalms 94–96, worship becomes something larger than personal encouragement. God’s people are called to remember who He is, walk faithfully before Him, and declare His glory among the nations. The rhythm of worship shapes identity by reminding God’s people that belonging to Him also changes how they see the world around them.In Romans 15, Paul describes a calling that keeps drawing him toward people who have not heard about Christ. His ambition is not simply to strengthen an existing platform or gather believers around himself. His awareness remains fixed on places where Jesus is not yet known, revealing how deeply the gospel has shaped the direction of his life.Together, these passages invite us to consider whether our experience of Christianity has gradually turned inward. They ask us to notice whether our hearts still recognize the people around us who do not know Jesus, and whether the good news that has formed us is continuing to shape the way we see those who have not yet heard.
