August 18 | Remember That You Are IN Christ

Today’s reading from Psalm 100–102 and 1 Corinthians 1 invites us to reflect on where our identity, confidence, and perspective are being formed. Both passages turn our attention away from the measurements and pressures surrounding us and toward the reality of who God is and what He has already provided, reminding us that spiritual formation happens as we repeatedly learn to see our lives through His faithfulness rather than through circumstances.In Psalm 100–102, worship, dependence, and honest prayer create a rhythm that keeps bringing the heart back to God. Praise reminds God’s people who they belong to, obedience flows from that identity, and even moments of distress are brought into God’s presence rather than allowed to become the final definition of life. These psalms form a steady posture of remembering who God is when circumstances could easily distort what we see.In 1 Corinthians 1, Paul speaks to believers who were being shaped by cultural ideas about wisdom, strength, status, and significance. He redirects their awareness toward the cross and reminds them of their calling, ultimately telling them that they are in Christ Jesus. Their identity is not something they must manufacture through achievement or recognition because Christ has already become for them wisdom, righteousness, sanctification, and redemption.Together, these passages invite us to notice the lenses through which we have learned to view ourselves and our circumstances. They remind us that formation often begins with awareness, especially when we discover that we have been living beneath the weight of assumptions that no longer define us. As we remain present to God’s Word, we learn over time to see ourselves less through what surrounds us and more through what God has already made true in Christ.
