August 3 | When Sin Calls, You Don’t Have to Answer

Today’s reading from Psalm 63–65 and Romans 6 invites us to reflect on what holds our attention and shapes our inner lives. Both passages show that spiritual formation happens over time as we learn to recognize God's voice, rest in His presence, and understand our new identity in Him.In Psalm 63–65, David repeatedly turns his attention toward God through longing, remembrance, prayer, praise, and trust. His circumstances do not always change immediately, but his heart is continually reoriented through the rhythm of seeking God, remembering His faithfulness, and resting in the truth of who God is.In Romans 6, Paul reminds believers that they have been united with Christ in His death and resurrection. Sin may still call, temptation may still appear, and old patterns may still feel familiar, but believers are no longer required to answer because sin is no longer their master. They are called to become increasingly aware that they are dead to sin’s authority and alive to God.Together, these passages invite us to consider which voices receive our attention and how the steady practices of Scripture, prayer, remembrance, and worship shape us over time. They remind us that we do not have to respond to every old pattern that calls and that our deepest identity is now found in the life we have received through Christ.
