Super star du manga, Toriyama était d'une pudeur extrême, n'accordait quasiment jamais d'interviews et se laissait rarement tirer le portrait. Pourtant son impact mondial va bien au-delà de la sphère des fans de manga, et notamment en France, où toute une génération, la mienne en l'occurence a été marquée par la diffusion de Dragon Ball puis de Dragon Ball Z dans le Club Dorothée. Diffusion polémique d'ailleurs, TF1 étant accusée de participer à l'abrutissement des enfants par une partie de la classe politique française, toujours en avance d'un combat, et aujourd'hui ridiculisé par le succès planétaire des aventures de Son Goku.
