A fehérjék az élet mindenesei. A fehérjéknek nevezett óriásmolekulák az élő szervezet építőköveiként messze a legfontosabb molekulák a szervezetünkben és nélkülük nincs élet.  Biokémikusaink évtizedek óta egy bizonyos fehérje, az S100 fehérjecsalád működését tanulmányozzák abból a célból, hogy feltérképezzék, milyen típusú betegségek kezelése esetén nyújthat segítséget.  Nyitray László, az ELTE Biokémiai Tanszék kutatója és munkatársai évek óta az S100 nevű különleges fehérjék viselkedését tanulmányozzák. Legújabb kutatásukban a fehérjecsalád kölcsönhatási hálózatát térképezték fel minden eddiginél pontosabban.
