Azmia Riaz (she/her) is a journalist with the Irish Independent. Azmia was born and raised in South India where she started out as an education journalist with The New Indian Express, a role she held for four years. She moved to Ireland in 2021 to pursue her Masters at UCD where she worked with local radio stations and the LGBTQIA+ society. She joined the Irish Independent as a MET news reporter and went on to cover human interest stories for daily features and rural affairs. She currently works in the role of Local Democracy Reporter for Dublin.
