Azmia Riaz (she/her) is a journalist with the Irish Independent. Azmia was born and raised in South India where she started out as an education journalist with The New Indian Express, a role she held for four years. She moved to Ireland in 2021 to pursue her Masters at UCD where she worked with local radio stations and the LGBTQIA+ society. She joined the Irish Independent as a MET news reporter and went on to cover human interest stories for daily features and rural affairs. She currently works in the role of Local Democracy Reporter for Dublin. Philippa Ryder (she/her) is a transgender woman. She joined the Irish civil service, the Property RegistrationAuthority, in 1980 and retired in 2022.
