Bad Luck's Got Good Rhythm

PLAY LOUD ... Woke up late with a hole in my shoe, Coffee went cold, rent came due. Boss on the phone said, “Where you been?” I said, “Outside, trying to get back in.” Caught my coat on a rusty nail, Missed my ride, but I caught your trail. You were downstairs kicking up dust— I forgot what the hurry was. Got a little trouble hanging round my neck, A whole lot of Friday missing from my check. Then that bass came through the floor— Now I don’t need much more. Bad luck’s got good rhythm, Got me moving all night long. Every time I try to shake it, It puts another record on. Hey now, slide a little closer, Let that backbeat pull you in. Bad luck’s got good rhythm— Here we go again. You walked in when the lights came on, Said, “Don’t tell me all the good stuff’s gone.” Bartender sighed, put the glasses back, Drummer reached for his hi-hat. You said, “Honey, do you dance or talk?” I said, “Mostly trip when I try to walk.” You pulled me close by a crooked tie, Said, “Keep those feet in time with mine.” Rain coming down on a dead-end street, Your left hand keeping time on me. Had something clever I meant to say— One snare hit blew it clean away. Bad luck’s got good rhythm, Got me moving all night long. Every time I try to shake it, It puts another record on. Hey now, slide a little closer, Let that backbeat pull you in. Bad luck’s got good rhythm— Here we go again. Hold on… Give the drummer some. I had plans to be miserable tonight. Look what you’ve done. Bad luck’s got good rhythm, Got us moving all night long. Every time we try to leave here, They play another song. Hey now, slide a little closer, Daylight’s creeping through the blinds. Bad luck’s got good rhythm— And your hand’s still holding mine. “Did you pay those bills?” “No, but I paid my dues!” “What you gonna do tomorrow?” “Put some funk into these blues!”
