The first 1:40 consists of interplanetary space sounds. One could argue that these are rather unnecessary sound effects to begin the song. Planets was composed in the small hours of the early morning at Flat D, 1 Grosvenor Place, also known as Wud HQ. The guitar is played on the Ice Maiden through the Electric Mistress on the 'red' setting. During the long sustained Em7 chord, the guitar sings a note that isn't actually there. This was a remarkable moment. It was possibly due to harmonic resonance with the springs for the tremolo hidden inside the body that hold the bridge in place. Planets was performed by Wud.
