Dark Company: Red Sun (alpha mix)

Red Sun by Dark Company. From CD 1, 'SNAFU', of the triple CD album 'A for Acronym'. RED SUN Desperation dominoes from Tipped-Over Lane Cascading cubic stones Headlong rocky rain Living through the sleet of love Nothing ever seems enough Your life’s in the frame Your life’s in the frame Your life’s in the frame Your life’s in the frame Corrugated calculus from Ripple Park Road Cobble heavy meteors Hitting you real slow Landing in a heart of sparks Lighting up the sooty dark The sea tides ebb and flow The sea tides ebb and flow The sea tides ebb and flow The sea tides ebb and flow Summerland summaries from memory’s shelves Stunning colour picture books Of photos of ourselves Pulled out of the buckets Taken from the wells Ask time if it tells Ask time if it tells Ask time if it tells Ask time if it tells Ask time if it tells Ask time if it tells Ask time if it tells Ask time if it tells Lyrics by P. Greatorex, September 26th 2012. Music by G. Davies/P. Greatorex Copyright © 2012 D & G Music/Explicit Music. Performers: ‘Speedy’ Pete Greatorex – vocals Zak Black - guitars Josh Reynes - keys Maxx Damage – bass Sven Stiglund – drums Cover Art: “Germinating Worlds” by Peter Greatorex. See: https://www.wudrecords.co.uk/artists/dark-company/original-artwork-by-peter-greatorex/original-artwork-by-peter-greatorex-gallery-6/ Copyright ℗ 2026 Wud Records. FUN FACTS: * Red Sun is a song in the key of E minor. * The rhythm guitars are the Stratocaster to the right and the Ice Maiden to the left. * The lead guitar poured forth from the ether very quickly. * So did the piano. * The power supply for the keyboard was probably the last bit of broken electrical gear that Pete fixed for us before he passed away. * In the demo with just guitar and voice we could hear this was a fantastic song * We love the imagery in Pete's lyrics. Band of Georges: Change

Change by George. From Volume IV Side B of the Band of Georges. Music and lyrics by G. Davies. Composed 20th January 1985. Recorded August 1986. Mixed October 1986. Lifted from cassette April 2025. Copyright © 1985 Explicit Music. Copyright ℗ 2025 Wud Records. Fun Facts: Change is a progressive rock song that was originally composed on the guitar. There are 42 different chords on the guitar, apparently. Change was performed by Wud and was a crowd favourite. Ken would play a two-note solo at the beginning, then George took over the lead duty. There are many musical changes, as well as the lyrics describing the feeling of growing from child to adult. "A dram of cider" is an odd lyric that refers to the early Wud posse's enjoyment of drinking whisky as well as cider. The piano is a Challen 988 upright which lived in George's family's home and was bought new directly from the factory in about 1970. Band of Georges: Planets

Planets by George. From Volume IV Side B of the Band of Georges. Music and lyrics by G. Davies. Composed 17th November 1984, from 04:00ish to 05:45ish am. Recorded August 1986. Mixed October 1986. Lifted from cassette April 2025. Copyright © 1984 Explicit Music. Copyright ℗ 2025 Wud Records. Fun Facts: This version of Planets is very much the full-length version. The first 1:40 consists of interplanetary space sounds. One could argue that these are rather unnecessary sound effects to begin the song. Planets was composed in the small hours of the early morning at Flat D, 1 Grosvenor Place, also known as Wud HQ. The guitar is played on the Ice Maiden through the Electric Mistress on the 'red' setting. During the long sustained Em7 chord, the guitar sings a note that isn't actually there. This was a remarkable moment. It was possibly due to harmonic resonance with the springs for the tremolo hidden inside the body that hold the bridge in place. Planets was performed by Wud. Band of Georges: The Pig, the Peg and the Egg

The Pig, the Peg and the Egg by George (and friends). From Volume IV Side A of the Band of Georges. With the greatest love and respect to the amazing Ivor Cutler. Music and lyrics by G. Davies/G. Barbe/O. Smith. Composed 31st October 1984. Recorded July 1986. Mixed October 1986. Lifted from cassette April 2025. Copyright © 1984 Explicit Music. Copyright ℗ 2025 Wud Records. Fun Facts: The Pig, the Peg and the Egg was written for fun by George, Graham and Jack the Frag. It was composed in the evening at Flat D, 1 Grosvenor Place, also known as Wud HQ. It is very much based upon a song called Barabadabada by Ivor Cutler. During its creation, George's disgruntled girlfriend stamped into the room and yelled her displeasure at the trio of composers. Undaunted, they carried on to the end. There is nothing sensible or serious about this song, neither expressed nor implied. Band of Georges: Dream

Dream by George. From Volume IV Side A of the Band of Georges. Music and lyrics by G. Davies. Arrangement by K. Staple. Composed 11th July 1984. Recorded July 1986. Mixed October 1986. Lifted from cassette April 2025. Copyright © 1984 Explicit Music. Copyright ℗ 2025 Wud Records. Fun Facts: This is the full-length version of Dream, with its 10:30 guitar solo. It was composed on a canal boat on the Norfolk Broads shortly after the end of 'A' levels. To begin with it was only about four minutes long. During various jams that happened to be recorded, it grew and grew. Much of the guitar solo was fairly definitve in the end. Ken helped a lot with the arrangement, including the changes of tempo and feel. Dream was performed by The Subterraineans as well as by Wud. Band of Georges: Why Don't You Go to Hell

Why Don't You Go to Hell by George. From Volume IV Side A of the Band of Georges. Music and lyrics by G. Davies. Composed 13th June 1984. Recorded July 1986. Mixed October 1986. Lifted from cassette April 2025. Copyright © 1984 Explicit Music. Copyright ℗ 2025 Wud Records. Fun Facts: Why Don't You Go to Hell is an alternative rock song. It was never performed by any band. This was a therapy song that George wrote when he was feeling rather disgruntled with his girlfriend. The lead guitar is clean with a touch of reverb from the HH PA amp and Boss OC2 octaver. The arpeggio rhythm guitar is beautifully flanged by the EHX Electric Mistress. Mixed October 1986. Lifted from cassette April 2025. Copyright © 1984 Explicit Music. Copyright ℗ 2025 Wud Records. Band of Georges: Victims

Victims by George. From Volume IV Side A of the Band of Georges. Music and lyrics by G. Davies. Composed 10th January 1984. Recorded July 1986. Mixed October 1986. Lifted from cassette April 2025. Copyright © 1984 Explicit Music. Copyright ℗ 2025 Wud Records. Fun Facts: Victims was written after George's girlfriend was not on the train she was supposed to be on. Whilst he continued to wait for her at another friend's bedsit, he was very much tempted to snuggle with another friend who was waiting there with him, but he did not. This song was never performed by any band. Band of Georges: 1984

1984 by George. From Volume III Side B of the Band of Georges. Music and lyrics by G. Davies. Composed 1st January 1984. Recorded July 1986. Mixed October 1986. Lifted from cassette March 2025. Copyright © 1984 Explicit Music. Copyright ℗ 2025 Wud Records. Fun Facts: 1984 was actually written on New Years Day, 1984, after hitchhiking home from a New Year celebration. This is a hard rock song in the key of A. It was a regular in the set of Wud, who did a very good version of it. Ken would add some strange vocals from the TV series The Prisoner. The drum machine was unable to do the six bars of 6/8, so it was turned off and back on again. Band of Georges: Wish You Were Here

Wish You Were Here by George. From Volume III Side B of the Band of Georges. Music and lyrics by G. Davies. Composed 4th December 1983, 1:30 - 2:45am. Recorded July 1986. Mixed October 1986. Lifted from cassette March 2025. Copyright © 1983 Explicit Music. Copyright ℗ 2025 Wud Records. Fun Facts: This is a curious song full of rather esoteric chords. It was attempted by Laughing Sun in 1985 but never became a part of their live set. Band of Georges: Will I Still Be With You Tomorrow

Will I Still Be With You Tomorrow by George. From Volume III Side B of the Band of Georges. Music by G. Davies. Lyrics by G. Davies/S. Steel. Composed 16th October 1983, updated 5th January 1986. Recorded July 1986. Mixed October 1986. Lifted from cassette March 2025. Copyright © 1983 Explicit Music. Copyright ℗ 2025 Wud Records. Fun Facts: Will I Still Be With You Tomorrow is the third song for The Concept Album, and the second to be finished. It received a slight lyrical update when George and Senga collaborated on this in 1986. The chords in the verses are barre chords played in the same positions for each line, but using different shapes. Band of Georges: Wait Until the Morning

Wait Until the Morning by George. From Volume III Side B of the Band of Georges. Music and lyrics by G. Davies. Composed 27th September 1983, 12:50 - 01:43am. Recorded July 1986. Mixed October 1986. Lifted from cassette March 2025. Copyright © 1983 Explicit Music. Copyright ℗ 2025 Wud Records. Fun Facts: This song in C major has something of a classic chord sequence. It was written after a weekend when George felt underwhelmed by how his girlfriend had received him when he went to visit. He was also frustrated that she insisted they keep their relationship secret from her family and friends. This is a song that was never heard before being released here. It was also never performed by any band. Band of Georges: They Painted Their Bodies

They Painted Their Bodies by George. From Volume III Side B of the Band of Georges. Music and lyrics by G. Davies/Y. Crone/S. Steel. Composed 8th July 1983, updated 5th January 1986. Recorded July 1986. Mixed October 1986. Lifted from cassette March 2025. Copyright © 1983 Explicit Music. Copyright ℗ 2025 Wud Records. Fun Facts: They Painted Their Bodies was the first finished song for The Concept Album. Although a lot of the music for The Concept Album came fairly quickly, the lyrics did not. They Painted Their Bodies was composed in a caravan in some woods near Dunsford, on the edge of Dartmoor. George and Yvonne were ostensibly going to write a lot of songs during the week they stayed there, but only managed the one. The did manage to enact a ceremony that would feature later on the concept album. The Concept Album told the tale of some adventurers who embarked upon an epic quest to defeat a terrible evil against insurmountable odds. The idea came from a computer game on the Apple II called Wizardry: Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord by Andrew Greenberg and Robert Woodhead. They Painted Their Bodies is in the key of C minor and is the second song for the album. Band of Georges: Leaving Me Here

Leaving Me Here by George. From Volume III Side B of the Band of Georges. Music and lyrics by G. Davies. Composed 18th May 1983. Recorded July 1986. Mixed October 1986. Lifted from cassette March 2025. Copyright © 1983 Explicit Music. Copyright ℗ 2025 Wud Records. Fun Facts: Leaving Me Here was performed by Wud. Ken could do over-the-top pretty well and did a good job of this song. The oddly jazzy instrumental break came in part from a guitar lesson George had. This lesson was his very first introduction to the phrygian mode. The original idea apparently came from a song by Barbara Streisand. Band of Georges: Too Many Times

Too Many Times by George. From Volume III Side B of the Band of Georges. Music and lyrics by G. Davies. Composed 2nd May 1983, 11:15am to 11:43am. Recorded July 1986. Mixed October 1986. Lifted from cassette March 2025. Copyright © 1983 Explicit Music. Copyright ℗ 2025 Wud Records. Fun Facts: This song was written the day after That's No Way to Pay a Bodyguard and Two Timer. It is in the key of E minor. George's Dad liked the guitar in this one. We were surprised at how long it was. There was some sort of accident with a playback, a live track and a punch pedal somewhere in the middle. It was never performed by a band. See also: https://www.wudrecords.co.uk/miscellaneous/band-of-georges/ https://www.wudrecords.co.uk/miscellaneous/band-of-georges/volume-iii-side-b/ https://www.wudrecords.co.uk/news/band-of-georges-release-permission-granted/ https://linktr.ee/wudrecords

    Band of Georges: Two Timer

Two Timer by George. From Volume III Side B of the Band of Georges. Music and lyrics by G. Davies. Composed 1st May 1983, finished 9:20pm. Recorded July 1986. Mixed October 1986. Lifted from cassette March 2025. Copyright © 1983 Explicit Music. Copyright ℗ 2025 Wud Records. Fun Facts: Two Timer is a song that was performed live many times by Rough Terrain. In their version there was a growly swamp guitar which was quite fun. The band often used to run the song into So Begins the Crying, which was also in F#m. Two Timer appears on Rough Terrain's Exit Stage Deaf compilation. It was written on the same day as That's No Way to Pay a Bodyguard, and has a very different feel to it. Band of Georges: That's No Way to Pay a Bodyguard

That's No Way to Pay a Bodyguard by George. From Volume III Side A of the Band of Georges. Music and lyrics by G. Davies. Composed 1st May 1983. Recorded July 1986. Mixed October 1986. Lifted from cassette March 2025. Copyright © 1983 Explicit Music. Copyright ℗ 2025 Wud Records. Fun Facts: This is a song that became quite well known and popular. It was written after George had spent a day fooling around and trying things out in the music room of a friend of his Dad. There were some more lyrics about sheep and grass in the key change section before the choruses, but these were soon abandoned. Instead, the lead guitar plays what was the vocal melody in this places. This song was performed live many times, by Wud, Lemming Meringue and others. Band of Georges: Loving You

Loving You by George. From Volume III Side A of the Band of Georges. Music and lyrics by G. Davies. Composed 24th April 1983. Recorded July 1986. Mixed October 1986. Lifted from cassette March 2025. Copyright © 1983 Explicit Music. Copyright ℗ 2025 Wud Records. Fun Facts: Loving You originally had three verses of lyrics as well as the chorus. The chorus remains, but the three verses were discarded due to being "too vomit-inducingly yucky". Instead the guitar plays the vocal melody. The song was shortened to a single instrumental verse. Loving You is in the key of C major. The guitar is played through an EHX Electric Mistress and Guyatone Analogue Delay. The lead guitar also has a Boss OC2 Octaver. The amplifier is a transistor, an HH 5-Channel PA, with reverb. Band of Georges: Flashback (Part 3)

Flashback (Part 3) by George. From Volume III Side A of the Band of Georges. Music and lyrics by G. Davies. Lyrics composed 21st and 24th September 1982. Music composed 13th April 1983. Recorded July 1986. Mixed October 1986. Lifted from cassette March 2025. Copyright © 1983 Explicit Music. Copyright ℗ 2025 Wud Records. Fun Facts: These were the original lyrics for the song Flashback. When George asked Simon to write some new lyrics for that song, Simon obliged. These lyrics were kept and when this music appeared they were applied. Thus it was that this became Flashback Part 3. Flashback Part 2 was another song, also called Hard Times. This song is in the key of E minor. The idea for the shouting might have come from Adam and the Ants. The rhythm guitar part that plays lots of single notes was played as close to the bridge as possible using the bridge pickup, for maximum brightness and treble. It was never performed by any band. Lifted from cassette March 2025. Copyright © 1983 Explicit Music. Copyright ℗ 2025 Wud Records. Fun Facts: This was an attempt to build triads using three separate instruments. It is in the key of C minor. It was never performed by a band. George described this song as a piece of "doomy self-indulgent twaddle". Lifted from cassette March 2025. Copyright © 1983 Explicit Music. Copyright ℗ 2025 Wud Records. Fun Facts: George was making a radio programme for his Communication Studies 'A' Level at college. The programme was about busking and featured several local buskers. He decided the programme needed a theme song as an introduction. This was the theme song he hastily composed to start the programme. It's not a very serious song. Mixed October 1986. Lifted from cassette March 2025. Copyright © 1983 Explicit Music. Copyright ℗ 2025 Wud Records. Fun Facts: Magic is a song in G minor. It was performed by Wud. There are a lot of D and D minor shapes in the guitar. The guitar solo is composed rather than improvised. Band of Georges: A Rumour

A Rumour by George. From Volume III Side A of the Band of Georges. Music and lyrics by G. Davies. Composed 1st February 1983, 8:05 - 8:45. Recorded July 1986. Mixed October 1986. Lifted from cassette March 2025. Copyright © 1983 Explicit Music. Copyright ℗ 2025 Wud Records. Fun Facts: A Rumour is a song that never made it to the set of any band. The chords for the chorus are Am, G, F9, Dsus. There is a gratuitous D13 in the verse. This is a song about the intrigues of teenage girls at college and the frustration and disappointment that can follow such duplicity. Band of Georges: Hard Times (Flashback Part 2)

Hard Times (Flashback Part 2) by George. From Volume III Side A of the Band of Georges. Music by G. Davies / M. Greatorex. Lyrics by G. Davies / R. Holloway. Orignally composed 27th January 1983. Recorded July 1986. Mixed October 1986. Lifted from cassette March 2025. Copyright © 1983 Explicit Music. Copyright ℗ 2025 Wud Records. Fun Facts: This is an art rock/hard rock song in A minor. There is a break where the chords are Dmaj7 and Fmaj7. Hard Times was part of the set of Wud and they would use it to close their set. It is the second part of Flashback, which had three parts. Richard helped with a few of the later lyrics and the bass part was influenced by what Marc used to play. There was a drummer who couldn't understand the beat of this song and sat looking embarrased and uncomfortable on his drumstool until the end. He was sacked after the show. Band of Georges: Shadows

Shadows by George. From Volume III Side A of the Band of Georges. Music and lyrics by G. Davies. Composed 26th January 1983. Recorded July 1986. Mixed October 1986. Lifted from cassette March 2025. Copyright © 1983 Explicit Music. Copyright ℗ 2025 Wud Records. Fun Facts: This is a song in B minor. It has elements of jazz, funk, progressive rock and a sixties vibe somehow. The lead guitar is played on Nicodemus and the rhythm on the Ice Maiden. The bass is a driving force and a new riff introduces the instrumental section. This song was never taken on by any band. Band of Georges: Four

Four by George. From Volume II Side B of the Band of Georges. Music and lyrics by G. Davies. Composed circa 24th January 1983. Recorded June 1986. Mixed October 1986. Lifted from cassette March 2025. Copyright © 1983 Explicit Music. Copyright ℗ 2025 Wud Records. Fun Facts: Four is a song that was inspired by a dream that seemed to have four separate acts. It had rather a grand scope and several of George's friends seemed to love this song, despite its apparently nonsensical lyrics. In 1985 it became a part of Wud's repertoire. George had heard bands such as Led Zeppelin, Blue Oyster Cult and Black Sabbath perform a song where everyone but the guitarist left the stage and the guitar played some sort of solo. This was incorporated into this song, to represent the time and the upcoming change in feel following an event in described in the lyrics. The piano was recorded at a very low gain for reasons now unknown, unfortunately. There is something causing a massive hiss on the vocal mic, possibly a low battery in the Selmer Scintallation reverb unit. Band of Georges: I Don't Care Now

I Don't Care Now by George. From Volume II Side B of the Band of Georges. Music and lyrics by G. Davies. Composed 21st January 1983, 9:15 to 10:30. Recorded June 1986. Mixed October 1986. Lifted from cassette March 2025. Copyright © 1983 Explicit Music. Copyright ℗ 2025 Wud Records. Fun Facts: As this song was being recorded it seemed to grow in stature from something that was pretty ordinary to something that was actually pretty good. It is a song of healing, fortitude and moving on. The key is E major. This was the very first time that George had recorded two-handed tapping. Several months previously a girl who George was deeply fond of had been forced to move hundreds of miles away due to a new parental job. When the advent of social media many years later allowed them to get in touch again, it turned out the young lady in question was also devastated by the sudden move. I Don't Care Now was never added to the repertoire of any band and remained a piece of personal therapy. I Hate You by George. From Volume II Side B of the Band of Georges. Music and lyrics by G. Davies. Composed 20th January 1983, 5:02 to 5:27pm. Recorded June 1986. Mixed October 1986. Lifted from cassette March 2025. Copyright © 1983 Explicit Music. Copyright ℗ 2025 Wud Records. Fun Facts: This is not a particularly serious song In fact, it is rather fun, in a typically teenage way. The sentiments within may be true, but this song is done as a parody or caricature. I Hate You is a punk song in the key of A. "I really cannot be dealing with your incessant mind-numbing foolishness any more, begone" is arguably not as good a title for a song. The guitar was the first thing laid down, in one take, with a little improvised solo. The vocal also was probably first take. Lifted from cassette March 2025. Copyright © 1983 Explicit Music. Copyright ℗ 2025 Wud Records. Fun Facts: A funky song about a perfectly normal day. The day was ruined by the news that the family cat, Lucky, had been squashed by a lorry on the main road. This song is in the key of B minor. Both Nicodemus and the Ice Maiden can be heard playing rhythm guitar, one each side. This was George's first ever attempt at playing slap bass. Lifted from cassette March 2025. Copyright © 1983 Explicit Music. Copyright ℗ 2025 Wud Records. Fun Facts: George says, "This is a stupid song!" It is in the key of D major. It features a track of blapping and a track of a glass jar of Simon's mung beans as a shaker. This song was written on the same day as "I Want". Danny, the drummer from Rough Terrain, rather liked this song and was keen on including it in the band's repertoire. We are not sure whether Rough Terrain ever performed it live, or not. It's an Ibanez Roadstar II into an HH 5-Channel PA. This song in A minor never made it to the set of any band and remained as a piece personal therapy for its composer's aching soul. Fun Facts: A Slightly More Optimistic Meteorological Outlook is a weird sounding song. This is mostly due to an experimental harmony vocal that didn't work particularly well. This song was performed by Now and is in the key of D minor. Much like One Thing You'll Never Know, it didn't quite manage to creep into the set of Wud. Lifted from cassette March 2025. Copyright © 1982 Explicit Music. Copyright ℗ 2025 Wud Records. Fun Facts: One Thing You'll Never Know starts with the main musical statement in the key of A minor. Then, it suddenly speeds up and changes to the same thing in C minor. This was to create an effect as if somebody had suddenly bumped the speed up on the record player. This song was written after a couple of girls at college claimed that George said some particular foolish things. Although he was, and indeed still is, inclined to say foolish things from quite often, these were particular foolish things which he did not say at all. Unfortunately the lie was believed, so he shrugged and moved on, saying nothing more to those involved, ever again. This song was performed by Now. Copyright © 1982 Explicit Music. Copyright ℗ 2025 Wud Records. Fun Facts: This is a song in D minor. Most of the lyrics came following a dream. Much of the lead guitar is composed rather than improvised. One morning, when George had stayed overnight at Simon's parents' house, SImon said that he'd dreamed about a film called "Non-man Man", "...or something." As such, this song was inspired by two different dreams. Fading was performed by Wud and The Addled Eggs. This was another song George wrote for Mark's production of George Orwell's 1984, which never went ahead in the end. Julia was performed live by Wud and Lemming Meringue. Much of the lead guitar is composed rather than improvised. He phoned Simon to tell him he had written a new song for the 1984 play that Mark Drower was planning to present. Simon had also written a song the same evening. Both of their songs had the exact same chord progression - G D F C. Simon's song was Johnny Wake Up, which was later performed by the two of them on Sidmouth Seafront for the local TV station, which was when Ken and Simon Knagg first appeared. Mark didn't go through with putting on the play and nothing ever happened with this song. Lifted from cassette March 2025. Copyright © 1982 Explicit Music. Copyright ℗ 2025 Wud Records. Fun Facts: Too Late is a hard rock or blues rock song in E major. It is a break-up song, composed when George became exasperated with a girlfriend at college. This song was one of the few that Now performed live at their Sidbury Colleseum show in February 1983. That was before deciding that discretion was the better part of valour, and retiring to the dressing rooms and then graveyard opposite, to drink cider and smoke catnip. Band of Georges: Teel: A Mistaken Identity

Teel: A Mistaken Identity by George. From Volume II Side A of the Band of Georges. Music and lyrics by G. Davies. Composed 22nd November 1982. Recorded May 1986. Mixed October 1986. Lifted from cassette March 2025. Copyright © 1982 Explicit Music. Copyright ℗ 2025 Wud Records. Fun Facts: The rhythm guitar is the source of the song and is played through a Hohner HFX Instant Funk pedal. This song is based on a true story involving the wrong girl at a school disco. At a school disco in the autumn of 1982, George was a gatecrasher because he had just left school and started at Exeter College. Simon was rather fond of a particular girl called Kate. George found Kate, took her by the hand with a cheeky smile, and persuaded her to sit on Simon's knee and give him a snuggle. Unfortunately, it was the wrong Kate. The name 'Teel' comes from the last two letter of the name Kate and the first two letters of the wrong girl's surname. The name 'Lert' came from an occasion when several people were signing a 'thank you' card for a teacher using fictitious names and scribbled signatures. Chords are ||: Em - Bm/D - Em - Bm/D - A - G - A - Am - D7 :|| - Em - D6 - Em. The lead guitar parts are definitive and composed. Mixed October 1986. Lifted from cassette March 2025. Copyright © 1982 Explicit Music. Copyright ℗ 2025 Wud Records. Fun Facts: The rhythm guitar is Dean's Ibanez 12-string. It is probably the last verse which was altered in 1985, when George was reviewing his songs ready for these recordings. George wrote the words hastily and they just came out of his imagination, rather than being based on anything that happened, or that he read or dreamed. Greatorex. Recorded May 1986. Mixed October 1986. Lifted from cassette March 2025. Copyright © 1982 Explicit Music. Copyright ℗ 2025 Wud Records. Fun Facts: Frog is a fun instrumental in the key of G major. The idea for the frog noises came from Marc. Simon composed the lead guitar part. During a jam of this song in what were then the 'new' school music rooms, Pete Rippin handed Mark Drower a cigarette he had just rolled. Perfectly timed in a gap between a 'verse' and a 'chorus', the tape machine picked up Mark's "Mmmm, thanks!" That particular exclamation remained a part of Frog ever after. Frog was later performed live a great many times by Rough Terrain. It is the second track on Rough Terrain's Howell Road Demo, and their Exit Stage Deaf compilation. Lifted from cassette March 2025. Copyright © 1982 Explicit Music. Copyright ℗ 2025 Wud Records. Fun Facts: Slark Lywilsbie is a jolly instrumental piece in the key of F major. It received its first airing in the days of Now. Simon always referred to it as "Jack Rabbit". Slark Lywilsbie was performed live many times by Rough Terrain. Laney made up a funny dance to go with it. Rough Terrain recorded Slark Lywilsbie at Daylight studios in Honiton in 1988. You can hear the full version and the stripped back 'bare' remix on their Exit Stage Deaf album. Lywilsbie is pronounced "Lie" (the opposite of truth) - "Wills" - "Bee", with the stress on the second syllable. Slark is a utopian city from a fantasy world and Lywilsbie is made up from the beginnings and ends of the names of two girls who George used to know. Band of Georges: Flashback

Flashback by George. From Volume I Side B of the Band of Georges. Music by G. Davies/S. Miller/R. Holloway. Lyrics by G. Davies/S. Miller. Composed 21st and 24th September 1982 and then circa 6th November 1982. Recorded May 1986. Mixed October 1986. Lifted from cassette March 2025. Copyright © 1982 Explicit Music. Copyright ℗ 2025 Wud Records. Fun Facts: This is in fact Flashback Part 1. The original lyrics for Flashback Part 1 became Flashback Part 3. Flashback Part 2 was celled Hard Times. Both Hard Times and Flashback Part 3 appear in subsequent volumes of songs by the Band of Georges. Simon wrote new words for Flashback, and they are here. George changed one word - 'Judas' for 'Manda', and ever onwards from some years later, regretted doing so. Flashback (Part 1) was performed by many different bands. A recorded version by Fooog Dinboffin and the Release was when Simon create the beautiful guitar melody at the start of the instrumental. We hope to be able to release that version sometime this year. Flashback was recorded in 1985 by Wud and appears on the Daylight Demo, with Ken singing. Rough Terrain performed it live many, many times. In addition to those bands, Flashback was also part of the set of Now, Sirius Rising, Lemming Meringue, The Addled Eggs and The Subterraineans. During the days of Sirius Rising, Richard created a flute part. On this particular recording of Flashback, the flute part was played on the EDP Wasp, and sounds nothing at all like a flute. The verses are in A major and the choruses in F#m. This song was written after a performance of Everyone, when the whole show was restaged at Exeter Cathedral. George had been enjoying the company of Jo, one of the cast, when the main lights suddenly went out, plunging the cathedral into near darkness. The pupils of Jo's eyes suddenly grew much bigger, which was completely captivating for a 16-year-old boy full of hormones. The acoustic 12-string is the Ibanez that belonged to Dean from The Addled Eggs and The Subterraineans, who were busy trying to form a live set at that time. Copyright © 1982 Explicit Music. Copyright ℗ 2025 Wud Records. Fun Facts: Glitter was composed in the evening of the same day that Mark Drower and the Everyones had recorded the Blaze Tape. The rest was composed the following day. George's friend Caireen, who had also gone to Torquay to participate in the creation of The Blaze Tape by Mark Drower and the Everyones, had asked him to write a song for her, and he came up with this. He had a full set of Hohner HFX modular effects - Instant Funk, Valve Overdrive, Chorus/Flanger and Phase Shifter. The rhythm guitar sound morphs its way through all of these in various permutations and combinations. There are a lot of minor ninths and major sevenths. A couple of weeks later, George attempted a multi-track recording of this song, and maybe three others. He did this by recording as many parts as he could into a cassette machine. The resulting mix was played back, quite loudly, whilst George played more parts and recorded this mix into another cassette machine. The sound was pretty horrible and the degradation dreadful, but eventually he had a finished version of it and posted it to Caireen. Lifted from cassette March 2025. Copyright © 1982 Explicit Music. Copyright ℗ 2025 Wud Records. Fun Facts: This tune is essentially a simple guitar composition with a drop-D. The atmospherics are provided by an EDP Wasp, some glissando (screwdriver) guitar, and a wailing voice. The windmill in question was probably Stallingborough, near the estuary of the river Humber in Lincolnshire. Band of Georges: Amanda

Amanda by George. From Volume I Side B of the Band of Georges. Music and lyrics by G. Davies. Composed 11th August 1982. Recorded May 1986. Mixed October 1986. Lifted from cassette March 2025. Copyright © 1982 Explicit Music. Copyright ℗ 2025 Wud Records. Fun Facts: This was a wonderful bass riff and some interesting guitar parts. It has almost a 'new wave' sort of feel to it. George hates the lyrics he wrote! He says he doesn't like the idea of another person being 'his', or owning another person, and this song is completely at odds with what he believes. He claims to have written this under "self-inflicted emotional duress". It is a song of unrequited love. Band of Georges: Oh

Oh by George. From Volume I Side B of the Band of Georges. Music by G. Davies. Lyrics by S. Miller. Composed circa 20th July 1982. Recorded May 1986. Mixed October 1986. Lifted from cassette March 2025. Copyright © 1982 Explicit Music. Copyright ℗ 2025 Wud Records. Fun Facts: George wrote this chord progressions and wanted to write some lyrics as well, lamenting the loss of a lover. He didn't like the lyrics he wrote very much and asked Simon to write some for him. These are the lyrics Simon wrote, which George felt expressed how he felt far better than what he had written previously. The chords are ||: Bm - G - A - Dmaj7 - G - E - F# - Bm - E - F# :|| The idea of the shouted words came from the words emphasised by speech mark in the text Simon wrote. The shouted words should have been a lot quieter.
