What this episode covers
Lisa McCracken has observed and strategized within the long-term care sector for more than two decades. Now, as the new director of research and analytics for the National Investment Center for Seniors Housing & Care, she’s putting that experience to good use. These are trying, transitional times, to be sure, she says. But there are also unique opportunities for skilled nursing operators as occupancy creeps up and wage pressures begin to ease. In addition to those topics, she touches on the hopeful role of new technology and how most new tools really are “staffing solutions” in this special McKnight’s Newsmakers podcast. McCracken believes operators must think about a new way to picture skilled nursing: As that of a set of services rather than a fixed place. Ultimately, she tells McKnight’s Executive Editor James M. Berklan, that she thinks the resilience of the sector’s providers will help pull them through. That, and despite some recent hits in the mainstream media, the fact that operators have many more positive resident experiences they can build on.
