Night Five’s message was straightforward:“The best plans, by their nature, can always get better”Isn’t that novel?It invites a certain flexibilityOpennessStructure with fluidityI liked this oneIt was one of those thingsOnce you heard itIt’s impossible to unhearYou can’t defend an old plan from a new idea that makes senseJust for the sake of ‘but it’s the plan!’Don’t they say“Man makes plans, God laughs”?Of course, planning is important in this lifeWe have responsibilities and goalsThere are a lot of moving partsWe need structure to actualize our intentDwight Eisenhauer said,“Plans are useless, but planning is indispensable”Our plans help us make sense of our lifeBut we chart a course,We don’t cast it in stoneWe use the north star to navigateNot to arrive at the north starOpenness makes a plan a living organismResponsive to what is happeningI think of octopusesAlways being innovative in their problem solvingSure they apply former knowledgeTo expedite the processBut they stay nimble and responsive to the momentGenerating new knowledge through curiosity and playfulnessKeeping life dynamicInstead of mechanicalWe’re finding with this moveThe necessity of planningAnd its futilityStaying fluid between the polesBecause the details like the air conditioner breakingAnd the car needing to be in the shopKeep shaking up the dynamicsAnd rearranging the partsIf we were trying to stick to a planWe’d really be frustratedAnd we don’t need any more of thatStatic plans aren’t alive“This is how we’ve always done it”Feels like a cop out to everyoneIt can be a helpful baselineBut can’t it evolve with the times?Isn’t that one of the great expressions of our humanityTo learn and growBe focused and adaptiveIterateBecomeAll of life is becomingOur plans includedAnd this gift from many years agoWas a blessing to help me remember to be fluid, openSo my intention can meet life’s alivenessAnd we can become togetherA ballet of direction and graceAnd when the music changes,A tango This is a public episode.
