Being a Non-Conformist

So, what is it about you that makes you different to anyone else you know? Is it a particular ability that you have, or a motivation, or perhaps your faith? And, here's the kicker, are you happy about it or not? Being different is something of a double-edged sword. On the one hand, perhaps there's some particular ability that you have that you delight in. Great. But on the other, we don't like to stand out too much, to be too different to the point where people feel uncomfortable with who we are. There are a good many people who don't feel comfortable in their own skin, because … they're different. One of the things that can make you very different from those around you is a genuine, heartfelt faith in Jesus. He was different … and people hated that so much that they nailed Him to a cross. The Apostle Paul, who as a Pharisee converted from a rather extreme form of Judaism to Christianity, he was different too – for which he was spurned, even beaten. And yet, he writes: Galatians 1:10 Now do you think I am trying to make people accept me? No, God is the one I am trying to please. Am I trying to please people? If I wanted to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ. As Charles Spurgeon put it, "There is tolerance for everybody who conforms to the fashion of the day; but no tolerance for anyone who believes that the laws of heaven should regulate life on earth." People will reject you for following Jesus. Be different. Follow Him anyway. That's God's Word. Fresh … for you … today.
