from All Things Possible With Bethany Hamilton · host bethanyhamiltonpodcast

Behind every eating disorder is a story far more complex than we realize, and today we’re uncovering what’s really going on. Bethany and Adam sit down with Dr. Deena Muno, a clinical psychologist who works with some of the most severe cases of eating disorders in hospital settings as well as through her private practice. Deena shares from her years of experience walking with patients whose lives are at risk due to restrictive eating, and she helps us understand that eating disorders are not just about body image; they are layered, complex, and deeply tied to neurobiology, personality traits, family systems, and cultural pressures like social media. Together, Bethany and Deena talk about: The hidden dangers of eating disorders and how they affect the brain, heart, and every system in the body The role of personality traits and neurobiology in anorexia and ARFID How family dynamics and cultural influences shape our relationship with food and our bodies The importance of early intervention for parents and friends who are concerned Practical ways to love, support, and walk alongside someone who is struggling Why faith, community, and professional tools all play a role in recovery Guest Bio: Dr. Deena Muno is a clinical psychologist specializing in eating disorders. She works on an inpatient hospital unit where patients receive medical stabilization for severe cases of anorexia and ARFID, and she also runs a private practice serving clients of all ages. With a background in psychology and a personal passion for holistic health, she bridges the science of neurobiology with compassion for the whole person. Deena and her husband, a grass-fed rancher, often engage in holistic conversations about food, family, and wellness. She is also a wife, mom of two young children, and an advocate for helping people rediscover purpose and freedom in life.
