Protect: The APOL1 Proteomic Revolution A fascinating new study in Nature Medicine describes a 9-protein APOL1 Proteomic Risk Score (APRS) capable of predicting kidney disease progression years before chronic kidney disease becomes clinically apparent. Among individuals of African ancestry with APOL1 high-risk genotypes and preserved kidney function, APRS achieved a remarkable time-dependent AUC of ~86%, substantially outperforming traditional clinical scores and polygenic risk tools.
