Beyond the Pill

with Dr. Jolene Brighten

Hormonal birth control pills can mean freedom from unwanted pregnancy, but this freedom often comes at the cost. These days, hormonal based birth control pills are commonly prescribed for symptoms from painful periods to acne, often before a woman gets a chance to understand her own cycles, without much discussion of possible side effects, alternative treatments, and other non-hormonal methods for preventing unwanted pregnancies. Dr. Jolene Brighten spent years working with woman identifying Post-Birth Control Syndrome, and then learning how to help women heal from the use of hormonal birth control. On today's episode we discuss:

  • controlling vs. listening to our natural cycles
  • the side effects every woman considering or taking The Pill should know
  • how our symptoms are signals from the body and why masking them might not be a great idea

Dr. Jolene Brighten is Functional Naturopathic Medical Doctor and nutritional biochemist with a focus in women's endocrine health. She is recognized as a leading expert in Post-Birth Control Syndrome and the long term side effects associated with hormonal contraceptives. Dr. Brighten is also the author of, "Beyond the Pill: A 30-Day Program to Balance Your Hormones, Reclaim Your Body, and Reverse the Dangerous Side Effects of the Birth Control Pill." She is a speaker and a women's health advocate.
