El 16 de junio de 1997, The Verve lanzó el single “Bitter Sweet Symphony”. Esta pieza musical, caracterizada por ese ritmo de cuerdas que escuchamos tiempo atrás en nuestro podcast # 68, puso al grupo británico The Verve en muchas de las listas de éxitos de Estados Unidos y Reino Unido. Sin embargo, a pesar de la fama que les dio nunca recibieron ninguna ganancia monetaria de esta pieza. Para su creación, Ashcroft, el vocalista de la banda, hizo un acuerdo con The Rolling Stones y su disquera para usar una muestra de 5 notas que la banda de Mick Jagger había utilizado en su canción “The Last Time” del álbum Out of our heads. Esto a cambio de que las ganancias de la canción quedaran en 50/50 para cada agrupación.
