Notably, Ms. Sealey initially created Black Girls Must Die Exhausted as a self-published trilogy. Her independent release gained so much reader traction that it resulted in a highly unusual four-book deal with traditional publishing imprint Harper Perennial, a division of HarperCollins. Addressing the topic of infertility—according to the CDC, approximately six percent of married women between the ages of 15 to 44 years in the U.S. cannot get pregnant after a year of trying. In addition, nearly 12% of women between 15 to 44 years old struggle with getting pregnant or carrying a pregnancy to full term.
