Blessed Be the Lord! LUKE 1:57-79

from Understanding Christianity · host Sean Cole

Luke gives us the second of our Four Songs of Christmas here in what has historically been called The Benedictus, Latin for “Blessed.” Zechariah provides us with the THREE major or primary elements, aspects, or truths of the Christian faith.   In other words, this song, this blessing, gives us the heart of what it means to be a Christian and how we understand our faith Guilt, Grace, and Gratitude.   The Heidelberg Catechism is one of the most heartwarming and accessible of the Reformed statements of faith, and Question 2 addresses these three issues: Question: What must you know to live and die in the joy of this comfort? Answer: Three things: first, how great my sin and misery are; second, how I am set free from all my sins and misery; third, how I am to thank God for such deliverance.
