    STUMP THE PASTOR!!!

Dr. Sean Cole answers questions spontaneously from the class, without notes or preparation, during "Stump the Pastor" night. The questions asked ranged from the scapegoat legend from the Talmud to the identity of Melchizedek. Pastor Sean answered the question about whether John 8's account of the women caught in adultery should be included in the Bible. This led to a discussion on textual variants and the ending of Mark's gospel. Another question was asked about the Book of Enoch. Be Imitators of God: MATTHEW 5:48

Dr. Sean Cole preached a special Mother's Day sermon on parenting, based on Matthew 5:48. This section of the Sermon on the Mount started at 5:17 and now ends at 5:48 as a summary of the six antitheses. Jesus has addressed six laws or issues that the religious leaders were twisting: (1) murder, (2) adultery, (3) divorce, (4) oaths and vows, (5) retaliation and revenge, and (6) loving our enemies. These laws were all addressed in the Old Testament, but Jesus takes us deeper into God’s requirements by getting to the heart of the issue. Where is our heart? What dominates our thoughts? Do we merely try to conform to some outward list of rules and regulations, or do we truly see God’s law as not only the perfect standard of our outward conduct, but also the inward condition of our hearts? Here is the main point or central idea I want us to explore today: Parents should imitate their heavenly Father, not perfectly, but intentionally.   Sean's new book, Compassionate Calvinism: Defending the Doctrines of Grace Without Being a Jerk, has been released.   You can purchase it here:   https://www.amazon.com/Compassionate-Calvinism-Defending-Doctrines-Without-ebook/dp/B0FZDNLGK4/ref=sr_1_1   https://shop.g3min.org/products/compassionate-calvinism-defending-the-doctrines-of-grace-without-being-a-jerk     You can purchase Sean’s two books here:   40 Days in Philippians: Finding Joy in Jesus:   https://g3min.org/shop/books/g3press/40-days-in-philippians-finding-joy-in-jesus-sean-cole/   Your Identity in the Trinity: Discovering God’s Grace in the Gospel:  https://rb.gy/yoa223     VISIT OUR WEBSITE:   www.seancole.net     FOLLOW on:   Apple:   https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/understanding-christianity/id979729949   Spotify:   https://open.spotify.com/show/5F5IniTefWZPu2DjaazxPc?si=c37f71675a6e4321     FOLLOW US ON OUR SOCIALS:   YouTube:   https://www.youtube.com/@emmanuelbaptistchurch-ster4705   Facebook:   https://www.facebook.com/sean.cole.16144   Twitter/X:   https://x.com/sdcole

The Vindicator of All Wrongs: MATTHEW 5:38-42

The main idea of Jesus' teaching in Matthew 5:38-42 is that we should trust the Lord to vindicate us for our wrongs. This passage has been one of the most misunderstood portions of the Sermon on the Mount, resulting in some strange interpretations and practices. Does this mean we are to be doormats who give up all rights? Does this mean we should never use or endorse violence in any situation? Does this mean that we should be pacifists and not serve in the military or law enforcement? Listen and find out as Dr. Sean Cole explains this passage in detail.   Sean's new book, Compassionate Calvinism: Defending the Doctrines of Grace Without Being a Jerk, has been released. Live Truthfully! MATTHEW 5:33-37

Here is the main point of Jesus’ teaching in this passage: Live so truthfully that your word is never questioned. In this sermon, Dr. Sean Cole answers three questions of this text: First, how did the Old Testament explain vows and oaths? (vs 33) Second, how were the religious leaders abusing the taking of oaths and vows? (vs. 34-36) Third, what is the main point of Jesus’ teaching on oaths? (vs. 37) By nature, we are all guilty liars who exaggerate, break our promises, use careless words, and at times are not trustworthy or reliable. We desperately need a Savior who is the Ultimate Truth Teller and the ultimate Promise Maker to rescue us from our sin by dying on the cross, forgiving us, and granting us eternal life in heaven. Only Jesus gives you the power to live so truthfully that your word is never questioned. In this sermon from Matthew 5:31-32, Dr. Sean Cole preaches on divorce. He answers FOUR questions regarding marriage, divorce, and remarriage. Question One: How does the Bible describe marriage? Question Two: How did the religious leaders view divorce? Question Three: What are the biblical grounds for a divorce? ROMANS 14:1-15:13: Disputable Matters, Christian Freedom, and the Conscience

In Romans 14:1-15:13, Paul addresses the issue of disputable matters or issues of Christian freedom that are not specifically addressed in Scripture.  Dr. Sean Cole teaches how we should relate to one another as believers in Christian unity when we disagree on non-negotiable dogmas or doctrines, but on preferences or personal convictions. A church can experience two extremes: One: Legalism—elevating non-essentials or preferences to the level of dogma and making them a test of orthodoxy and conditions of fellowship. Two: License—abandoning the clear teachings of Scripture for an “anything goes” attitude in church A healthy church needs to have a: Clear stance on issues of dogma Clear explanation of matters of doctrine, with some flexibility to disagree Non-judgmental, non-legalistic atmosphere when it comes to secondary issues and preferences   Sean's new book, Compassionate Calvinism: Defending the Doctrines of Grace Without Being a Jerk, has been released.   You can purchase it here:   https://www.amazon.com/Compassionate-Calvinism-Defending-Doctrines-Without-ebook/dp/B0FZDNLGK4/ref=sr_1_1     https://shop.g3min.org/products/compassionate-calvinism-defending-the-doctrines-of-grace-without-being-a-jerk       You can purchase Sean’s two other books here:   40 Days in Philippians: Finding Joy in Jesus:   https://g3min.org/shop/books/g3press/40-days-in-philippians-finding-joy-in-jesus-sean-cole/   Your Identity in the Trinity: Discovering God’s Grace in the Gospel:  https://rb.gy/yoa223     VISIT OUR WEBSITE:   www.seancole.net     FOLLOW on:   Apple:   https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/understanding-christianity/id979729949   Spotify:   https://open.spotify.com/show/5F5IniTefWZPu2DjaazxPc?si=c37f71675a6e4321     FOLLOW US ON OUR SOCIALS:   YouTube:   https://www.youtube.com/@emmanuelbaptistchurch-ster4705   Facebook:   https://www.facebook.com/sean.cole.16144   Twitter/X:   https://x.com/sdcole

He then expresses his desire to visit the church in Rome after he delivers a financial gift from the Macedonian churches to the struggling church in Jerusalem. His ultimate desire is to go to Spain (frontier missions where Christ has not been heard), but wants to have a layover in Rome to be refreshed by their encouragement. ROMANS 13:8-14: Holy Living

In Romans 13:8-14, Paul teaches believers to cast off works of darkness and put on the Lord Jesus Christ. He urges us to live holy lives as we anticipate the Second Coming of Christ.  Instead of just saying “no” to sin, we need to see Christ in all of His glory and find that He is more captivating, beautiful, glorious, and worthwhile than the sin before us. A Sinful Desire or a Single Devotion? MATTHEW 5:27-30

Dr. Sean Cole continues through the Sermon on the Mount. Pastor Sean distilled this passage down into one crucial question: Will your heart choose sinful desires or a single devotion? The single devotion has a double meaning. First and foremost, it means that you have a single devotion to Christ alone as your Lord. But second, if you’re married, it means you have a single devotion to your spouse. In this sermon, he answers THREE important questions about this passage. Question One: What is adultery? Question Two: What is lust of the heart? Question Three: How do I fight the internal battle with lust? Will You Choosee Rage or Reconciliation? MATTHEW 5:21-26

The main point of this passage comes in a question I want to ask you today: Will your heart choose rage or reconciliation? In this sermon, Dr. Sean Cole explores THREE truths that emerge from this text. First, what is murder according to God’s Law? Second, God’s Law involved not only actions, but attitudes of the heart and mouth. Third, God’s moral law always has a positive element. In reality, we were responsible for the murder of Jesus. Even though our literal hands did not nail him to the cross, our sins put Him there. Our guilt, shame, and anger of the heart deserve the death penalty, and Jesus took our place. The good news of the gospel is that Jesus—the innocent, spotless Lamb of God- was murdered in our place on the cross and took the punishment we deserved. ROMANS 12:9-21: Marks of A Christian

In Romans 12:9-21, Paul gives us a great list of very practical ways we live out our faith. This is sanctification in action. And it starts with love. Never lose sight of what God has done for you in the gospel. Let that grace and your identity in Christ serve as the foundation and motivation for you to live a life of JOYFUL Obedience to Jesus out of gratitude for what He’s done. We saw the need to live a lifestyle of worship with transformed minds. We saw the need to use our spiritual gifts in service to others and to build up the church. SALT and LIGHT: MATTHEW 5:13-16

Matthew 5:13-16 concludes the Beatitudes before Jesus transitions into the Sermon on the Mount, which is how we live out our identity as believers in the Kingdom. Jesus begins with our identity in the Beatitudes before He tells us how to obey or live out our faith as His followers. This section is a bridge between our identity—those blessed by Christ—and what we do—becoming useful to Christ.   The final Beatitude was about persecution and how the world will treat us. The word’s influence and impact on us, citizens of the Kingdom. Jesus transitions to describe the exact opposite: How we as believers and citizens of the Kingdom influence and impact the world and respond to those who persecute us. Jesus uses two examples from the everyday life of those ancient Israelites to show them not only WHO they are, but also what they should do. Are you living your purpose? Or to ask it another way: Are you useful for Christ? Here is the big idea or central theme from this passage: Those blessed by Christ become useful for Christ.   Sean's new book, Compassionate Calvinism: Defending the Doctrines of Grace Without Being a Jerk, has been released. You can purchase it here: https://www.amazon.com/Compassionate-Calvinism-Defending-Doctrines-Without-ebook/dp/B0FZDNLGK4/ref=sr_1_1  https://shop.g3min.org/products/compassionate-calvinism-defending-the-doctrines-of-grace-without-being-a-jerk You can purchase Sean’s two other books here: 40 Days in Philippians: Finding Joy in Jesus:   https://g3min.org/shop/books/g3press/40-days-in-philippians-finding-joy-in-jesus-sean-cole/ Your Identity in the Trinity: Discovering God’s Grace in the Gospel:  https://rb.gy/yoa223 VISIT OUR WEBSITE: www.seancole.net FOLLOW on: Apple:https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/understanding-christianity/id979729949 Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/5F5IniTefWZPu2DjaazxPc?si=c37f71675a6e4321 FOLLOW US ON OUR SOCIALS: YouTube:https://www.youtube.com/@emmanuelbaptistchurch-ster4705 Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/sean.cole.16144 Twitter/X:https://x.com/sdcole

When Dying is Gain: MATTHEW 5:10-12

Dr. Sean Cole preaches the final Beatitude, and it is shocking. It is so countercultural. So counter-intuitive. So backwards and upside down. This final Beatitude really tells us what the result will be when we actively live out the other Beatitudes as a constant way of life. In this sermon, he asks THREE questions of this passage of Scripture. First of all, is persecution truly a reality in our world today? Second, what is the root cause of this persecution? And thirdly, why is it a joy to be persecuted? ROMANS 12:1-2: Living Sacrifice

Romans 1-11 teaches what God has done for us in the gospel and focuses totally on our identity in Christ. Paul spent a lot of time on justification by faith and what God the Father has done to save us. He focuses on our election and God’s grace and how, from first to last, God has rescued us as guilty sinners by sending Jesus to die in our place. The mercies of God in chapters 1-11 of Romans are the totality of what God has done for us in His sovereign grace in making us a new creation in Christ. In essence, what Paul is saying is that in light of all that God has done for us in making us this new creation in Christ, in light of this wonderful identity we have in Christ, and in light of the rich mercies of God as our foundation and our motivation, we are in turn, called to present our bodies as living sacrifices in lives of worship back to God.   Sean's new book, Compassionate Calvinism: Defending the Doctrines of Grace Without Being a Jerk, has been released.

    ROMANS 11

If Romans Chapter 9 focused on God’s sovereignty in salvation, Chapter 10 focused on human responsibility—the Jews were stubborn and refused to call on the name of Jesus to be saved. Here’s the question Chapter 11 answers: Is this a permanent situation for ethnic Jews? Will they refuse the gospel forever? Will there be a large number of Jews saved one day, like the Gentiles who are coming to faith in Christ in massive numbers? Do You Want a Deeper Fellowship With Christ? Matthew 5:8

Dr. Sean Cole continues through the Beatitudes. Here is the main point or big idea of this Beatitude: A heart purified BY Christ leads to deeper fellowship WITH Christ. This sermon asks three questions of this passage of Scripture. First of all, what does Jesus mean when He speaks about the heart? Second, what does it mean to be pure in heart? Third, what does it really mean that we will see God? ROMANS 10: Call Upon the Name of the Lord

Dr. Sean Cole continues the study of Romans.  In Chapter 10, we find out that human responsibility is behind why the Jews are not saved—it was their own fault due to their stubborn disobedience. There are two simultaneous truths taught in the Bible that are NOT IN CONFLICT or contradictory: God is absolutely sovereign in His decree of predestination Humans are responsible and accountable  This may not make sense when you ask, “Why are some people not saved?”  Two correct biblical answers: God did not sovereignly choose them to be saved They rejected the gospel and did not respond in faith Paul teaches these truths in Romans 10. ROMANS 9: Predestination and Reprobation

Sean's new book, Compassionate Calvinism: Defending the Doctrines of Grace Without Being a Jerk, has been released. You can purchase it here: https://www.amazon.com/Compassionate-Calvinism-Defending-Doctrines-Without-ebook/dp/B0FZDNLGK4/ref=sr_1_1 https://shop.g3min.org/products/compassionate-calvinism-defending-the-doctrines-of-grace-without-being-a-jerk   If Israel is God’s chosen people, to whom these glorious temporary blessings have been given (v 4-5), then why are so few ethnic Jews actually saved? Why are the accursed and cut off? Why are the Gentiles coming to faith in Christ in large numbers, but ethnic Jews are refusing to believe in Jesus? You may not like the answer Paul gives, but we have to deal with it. Two basic answers: Just because you are ethnically Jewish does not automatically guarantee that you will be saved—that was the presumption of the Jews. They thought they were automatically going to heaven based on their lineage or ethnicity. God chooses some people to be saved, while passing over others who will not be saved—this is how God has always done things. Dr. Sean Cole explains the difficulty of Romans 9 and also addresses the difficult doctrine of reprobation. He also answers the following four objections: Unconditional election makes God appear unfair or unloving. God is not obligated to save anyone; therefore, His choice to save some does not imply unfairness. If unconditional election is valid, then God must be blamed for sinners ending up in hell instead of sinners freely rejecting Christ and facing the consequences of their choices. God predestines only a small group to heaven while condemning the rest of humanity to hell. If God has already determined who is elect, why should we pray for and evangelize the lost?   You can purchase Sean’s two other books here:   40 Days in Philippians: Finding Joy in Jesus:   https://g3min.org/shop/books/g3press/40-days-in-philippians-finding-joy-in-jesus-sean-cole/   Your Identity in the Trinity: Discovering God’s Grace in the Gospel:  https://rb.gy/yoa223     VISIT OUR WEBSITE:   www.seancole.net     FOLLOW on:   Apple:   https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/understanding-christianity/id979729949   Spotify:   https://open.spotify.com/show/5F5IniTefWZPu2DjaazxPc?si=c37f71675a6e4321     FOLLOW US ON OUR SOCIALS:   YouTube:   https://www.youtube.com/@emmanuelbaptistchurch-ster4705   Facebook:   https://www.facebook.com/sean.cole.16144   Twitter/X:   https://x.com/sdcole

Because of what God has done for us in showing us mercy in our spiritual bankruptcy and lifting us out of the pit of our sin, we, in turn, have a new heart and a new attitude toward others.  We show mercy because we have been shown mercy. We are merciful because God was merciful to us in Christ and the gospel. Pastor Sean identifies THREE specific issues related to this passage. First, we see mercy DEFINED. Second, we see mercy ILLUSTRATED.  And third, we see mercy PROMISED.   You can purchase Sean’s other two books here:   40 Days in Philippians: Finding Joy in Jesus:   https://g3min.org/shop/books/g3press/40-days-in-philippians-finding-joy-in-jesus-sean-cole/   Your Identity in the Trinity: Discovering God’s Grace in the Gospel:  https://rb.gy/yoa223     VISIT OUR WEBSITE:   www.seancole.net     FOLLOW on:   Apple:   https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/understanding-christianity/id979729949   Spotify:   https://open.spotify.com/show/5F5IniTefWZPu2DjaazxPc?si=c37f71675a6e4321     FOLLOW US ON OUR SOCIALS:   YouTube:   https://www.youtube.com/@emmanuelbaptistchurch-ster4705   Facebook:   https://www.facebook.com/sean.cole.16144   Twitter/X:   https://x.com/sdcole

It speaks more of the choosing of sinners to be saved. God predestined His people in eternity past, meaning that His preordained plan will certainly and infallibly come to pass according to His sovereign will. Those God foreknew and predestined, He also CALLED. When that foreknown, chosen, predestined sinner hears the gospel call given outwardly through the preaching of the gospel, God also does an internal, effectual call that PRODUCES by grace the faith and repentance needed to come to Christ. Those whom God sovereignly and effectually calls will exercise saving faith and thus be justified. When did God’s foreknowing occur? In eternity past. When did God’s predestining occur? In eternity past. When did God’s calling occur? At a point in time when you were born again When did God’s justifying you occur? When you had faith in Jesus. When will you be glorified? In the future! It hasn’t happened yet. From eternity past to eternity future, God has sovereignly ordained and planned out to the most minute detail your salvation.   You can purchase Sean’s two other books here:   40 Days in Philippians: Finding Joy in Jesus:   https://g3min.org/shop/books/g3press/40-days-in-philippians-finding-joy-in-jesus-sean-cole/   Your Identity in the Trinity: Discovering God’s Grace in the Gospel:  https://rb.gy/yoa223     VISIT OUR WEBSITE:   www.seancole.net     FOLLOW on:   Apple:   https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/understanding-christianity/id979729949   Spotify:   https://open.spotify.com/show/5F5IniTefWZPu2DjaazxPc?si=c37f71675a6e4321     FOLLOW US ON OUR SOCIALS:   YouTube:   https://www.youtube.com/@emmanuelbaptistchurch-ster4705   Facebook:   https://www.facebook.com/sean.cole.16144   Twitter/X:   https://x.com/sdcole

This goes against everything in our American culture and in human nature to be meek.  The third Beatitude can be summed up in this statement: Those who act as if they are nothing will, in the end, possess everything. The world doesn’t understand meekness. We as Christians don’t understand meekness. Why would those who act like they are nothing actually in the end possess everything? How will we be comforted? What does it truly mean to mourn? Here’s a way to think about this Beatitude: Intense mourning results in incredible joy! Dr. Sean Cole addresses FOUR issues of this Beatitude and delves deeply into the timely issue of weeping and mourning. First, what the mourning Jesus blesses is NOT. Second, what actually causes us to weep? Third, what does it truly mean to mourn? Fourth, when will we be comforted? To receive the beauty of salvation, we must first grieve, mourn, and weep over our own personal sin and all its ravaging effects so that we can genuinely experience the liberating forgiveness of Christ. (vs. 28) He also discusses THREE fences or truths that QUALIFY God’s decree, so we hold to what the Bible says and avoid faulty thinking. Fence One:  God is NOT the author or direct cause of sin. Fence Two: God’s absolute decree does not violate man’s free will, as he is still responsible and acts according to his nature. Fence Three: God uses secondary causes to accomplish His decree. Nails, spear shall pierce Him through, The cross be borne for me, for you; Hail, hail the Word made flesh, The Babe, the Son of Mary.   This imagery of Jesus being pierced with nails and a spear comes from the Gospel of John. Celebrate King Jesus for His finished work on the cross! The carol calls us to “Hail the Word made flesh!” We don’t often use the word “hail,” but it means to celebrate, praise, or honor. One thing we can’t overlook is that Jesus is the King. This is the crucifixion of the King of kings and Lord of lords. And yet, how does Jesus, as King, die? This sermon explores THREE aspects of the Crucifixion of the King and why we should celebrate! Peace on earth, and mercy mild, God and sinners reconciled!” Why does this song mention peace on earth and the need for God and sinners to be reconciled? What, in fact, does this word “reconciled” or “reconciliation” mean?  Do you have a right relationship with Almighty God? This assumes something critical: that you can be in the wrong relationship with God. Do you have the assurance that when you die, you will go to heaven to be with God Almighty? How do you know deep in your heart that Almighty God accepts you and forgives you and that you have eternal life? This passage presents THREE essential truths to help you answer this question. What is the significance of Jesus' incarnation in the flesh? However, we have been set free from the PENALTY and POWER. As a result:   There is NO Condemnation for us---ever. We are in a permanent position of acceptance by the Father. We are united to Christ in a vital, powerful relationship. We have the Holy Spirit living inside of us. We are new creations in Christ. Therefore, we should LIVE like this. We should be grateful for this amazing grace, resist sin in our lives, and, by the power of the Spirit, strive to glorify God with the totality of our lives. This sermon examines “Joy to the World,” written by Isaac Watts Originally, “Joy to the World” was NOT a Christmas hymn. There is no mention of the baby Jesus, Bethlehem, the star, the shepherds or angels, or Mary and Joseph. In fact, Watts believed this Psalm was a prophecy about Christ, primarily about His Second Coming to judge the nations and to rule and reign. As you read Psalm 98, you begin to see clearly how Isaac Watts paraphrased or poetically reworded this Psalm in his lyrics. Here’s the big idea or central theme of Psalm 98: A salvation so amazing deserves a joy so overflowing! The Psalm has three distinct parts and gives us THREE reasons to express an overflowing joy in such an amazing salvation. Question One: WHY did these men follow Jesus? The answer: Sovereign Calling. Question TWO: What does it mean to follow Jesus? The answer: Swift Commitment. If you say yes to Jesus and decide to follow Him, it’s only because of His grace that has come to you first. It is because God has drawn you to Jesus. It is because the Holy Spirit has softened your heart toward Jesus. It is because God alone took the initiative to save you.   You can purchase Sean’s other two books here:   40 Days in Philippians: Finding Joy in Jesus:   https://g3min.org/shop/books/g3press/40-days-in-philippians-finding-joy-in-jesus-sean-cole/   Your Identity in the Trinity: Discovering God’s Grace in the Gospel:  https://rb.gy/yoa223     VISIT OUR WEBSITE:   www.seancole.net     FOLLOW on:   Apple:   https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/understanding-christianity/id979729949   Spotify:   https://open.spotify.com/show/5F5IniTefWZPu2DjaazxPc?si=c37f71675a6e4321     FOLLOW US ON OUR SOCIALS:   YouTube:   https://www.youtube.com/@emmanuelbaptistchurch-ster4705   Facebook:   https://www.facebook.com/sean.cole.16144   Twitter/X:   https://x.com/sdcole

We are free from the binding enslavement of the Law of Moses that crushes us under its weight and makes us guilty, but we are not free to do whatever we want because now we have a new master—the living God. There is no such thing as absolute freedom to do whatever you want, for both the non-Christian and the Christian. The question is not whether you will have a master—the question is WHO is your master and which one will you serve. We see THREE aspects or features of this text that show us the mission and ministry of Christ as King. First, we see the spiritual CONFLICT. Second, we see the spiritual CONDITION. And third, we see the spiritual COMMAND. What does it mean to repent? How can sinners enter the kingdom of heaven? Pastor Sean answers these questions in this sermon, urging the congregation to LISTEN to Jesus as the ultimate Preacher and LIVE for Jesus with an urgent response. At the end of Chapter 5, Paul makes a distinction between two and only two kinds of people: Those in Adam who are unregenerate Those who are in Christ, who are regenerate In Chapter 6, Paul emphatically teaches that those who are now “in Christ" have decisively died to sin as an enslaving power. So, here’s the question: Have you been set free from the enslaving, dominating power and penalty of sin or not? We have to conclude that we have indeed been decisively set free from sin. Here’s the problem: Why do we still sin? Why do we still do the things we know we shouldn’t do?  Why do we struggle with doing the things we should do and fail to do them? IF we have died to sin, been set free from sin, and our old man has been crucified, then should we not conclude that we will never sin again? That we can reach a plane of sinless perfection? Chapter 7 describes the everyday life of a regenerate Christian who still struggles with sin. In this brief sermon, he addresses four issues: First, God’s Law Concerning Life. Second, Christ’s Rule over the Nations. Third, the Role of Governing Authorities. Fourth, the Importance of the Great Commission.  Under the last heading, Sean addresses the two purposes of the Great Commission: The first is the spiritual or evangelistic purpose to make disciples of the nations through the preaching of the gospel. The second is the MORAL purpose, which involves calling rulers and nations to honor Christ’s Lordship by governing righteously. He concludes with a plea to pray for revival and spiritual awakening.   You can purchase Sean’s two other books here:   40 Days in Philippians: Finding Joy in Jesus:   https://g3min.org/shop/books/g3press/40-days-in-philippians-finding-joy-in-jesus-sean-cole/   Your Identity in the Trinity: Discovering God’s Grace in the Gospel:  https://rb.gy/yoa223     VISIT OUR WEBSITE:   www.seancole.net     FOLLOW on:   Apple:   https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/understanding-christianity/id979729949   Spotify:   https://open.spotify.com/show/5F5IniTefWZPu2DjaazxPc?si=c37f71675a6e4321     FOLLOW US ON OUR SOCIALS:   YouTube:   https://www.youtube.com/@emmanuelbaptistchurch-ster4705   Facebook:   https://www.facebook.com/sean.cole.16144   Twitter/X:   https://x.com/sdcole

    ROMANS 6:1-14

Sean's newest book has been released: Compassionate Calvinism: Defending the Doctrines of Grace Without Being a Jerk. You can purchase it here: https://shop.g3min.org/collections/books/products/compassionate-calvinism-defending-the-doctrines-of-grace-without-being-a-jerk https://tinyurl.com/5bezbsf5 From Romans 3:21 to Romans 5:21, Paul has gone into great detail explaining the doctrine of God’s free grace to guilty sinners. God justifies the ungodly through the sacrificial death of Jesus on the cross. We have complete forgiveness, peace with God, unending access to the throne of grace, and a permanent standing of being declared not guilty before a holy God. This is terrific news.  Some people respond to the gospel in one of two ways: This is too good to be true. There must be something I have to do to ADD to what Christ has already done. This is called LEGALISM. This is too good to be true. I can now live however I want with no regard for holiness because God will automatically forgive me no matter what. This is called LICENSE. It is this second abuse of God’s grace that Paul now draws our attention to. There is a shift in Chapter 6. The focus is now on SANCTIFICATION—the process of living out our justification. COMPASSIONATE CALVINISM: Sean's New Book Released

Sean's newest book has been released: Compassionate Calvinism: Defending the Doctrines of Grace Without Being a Jerk. You can purchase it here: https://shop.g3min.org/collections/books/products/compassionate-calvinism-defending-the-doctrines-of-grace-without-being-a-jerk https://tinyurl.com/5bezbsf5 In this podcast, Dr. Sean Cole introduces his new book and reads Chapter One. From the back cover:  Reformed theology has experienced a dramatic resurgence in the last few decades. Thousands are discovering the awe of God's sovereignty in salvation and the tenets of Calvinism. Sadly, many of these "new" Calvinists are so zealous in defending the doctrines of grace that they often struggle to engage in charitable dialogue with their opponents. Given the mischaracterizations and confusion often surrounding Calvinism, we need a generation of faithful believers who can defend the doctrines of grace with actual grace. Those who uphold God's sovereign grace in salvation should display the most grace while unashamedly defending Calvinism. Now more than ever, the evangelical church needs a compassionate Calvinism. BOLDNESS in a "Negative" World: How to Engage a Hostile Culture

We live in an American culture that is divided, and many are hostile to the gospel of Christ. How can we faithfully engage the lost? Dr. Sean Cole preaches a sermon that addresses four key issues: First,  the biblical mandate to preach the gospel. Second, a brief history of American culture and its attitude toward Christianity. Third,  two competing models for engaging culture that evangelical Christians can adopt. The first method is the Third Way winsome approach to engaging culture. Pastor Tim Keller advocated this approach and has influenced many within conservative Reformed evangelicalism to abandon what he calls the far-right fundamentalists and the far-left progressives, and to create a new middle, or third way, that values being winsome, non-combative, nuanced, and more focused on winning over liberals and progressives to the gospel. This model MAY work in some cases, but if we live in a negative world, there may be a better strategy or way forward. However, there is another model: The bold, unapologetic John the Baptist model. Fourth, Pastor Sean offers a way forward by giving seven action steps churches can take to faithfully engage culture with boldness in a negative world.   You can purchase Sean’s two books here: 40 Days in Philippians: Finding Joy in Jesus:   https://g3min.org/shop/books/g3press/40-days-in-philippians-finding-joy-in-jesus-sean-cole/ Your Identity in the Trinity: Discovering God’s Grace in the Gospel:  https://rb.gy/yoa223   VISIT OUR WEBSITE:   www.seancole.net     FOLLOW on:   Apple:   https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/understanding-christianity/id979729949   Spotify:   https://open.spotify.com/show/5F5IniTefWZPu2DjaazxPc?si=c37f71675a6e4321     FOLLOW US ON OUR SOCIALS:   YouTube:   https://www.youtube.com/@emmanuelbaptistchurch-ster4705   Facebook:   https://www.facebook.com/sean.cole.16144   Twitter/X:   https://x.com/sdcole

A Blueprint for Boldly Proclaiming the Gospel: MATTHEW 3:1-12

What is authentic gospel preaching? How do I practice biblical evangelism? Is there a pattern or blueprint for sharing the gospel with boldness? In the preaching of John the Baptist, we see FOUR aspects of authentic gospel proclamation. First, we must confront people with their sin and guilt. Second, we must warn people of the reality of hell. Third, we must call people to repent with urgency. Fourth, we must urge them to trust in Christ alone.   You can purchase Sean’s two books here:   40 Days in Philippians: Finding Joy in Jesus:   https://g3min.org/shop/books/g3press/40-days-in-philippians-finding-joy-in-jesus-sean-cole/   Your Identity in the Trinity: Discovering God’s Grace in the Gospel:  https://rb.gy/yoa223     VISIT OUR WEBSITE:   www.seancole.net     FOLLOW on:   Apple:   https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/understanding-christianity/id979729949   Spotify:   https://open.spotify.com/show/5F5IniTefWZPu2DjaazxPc?si=c37f71675a6e4321     FOLLOW US ON OUR SOCIALS:   YouTube:   https://www.youtube.com/@emmanuelbaptistchurch-ster4705   Facebook:   https://www.facebook.com/sean.cole.16144   Twitter/X:   https://x.com/sdcole

Blessing Two: We have obtained permanent access to this extraordinary, lasting grace. Blessing Three: One of the fruits of true salvation is difficulties and hardships ordained by God for our growth and His glory. The Reality of Intense Spiritual Warfare Date: MATTHEW 2:13-23

We no longer live in an America where the vast majority of people hold to some degree of Biblical morality or appreciate the Christian faith. As Christians, we can sometimes be objects of scorn, ridicule, and hatred. And this should not surprise us because Christ Himself was also an object of scorn, ridicule, and hatred. What’s the central point of Matthew 2:12-23 in Herod's wicked plot to kill the baby Jesus: Followers of Christ should expect intense spiritual warfare. If you are a Christian, you will experience times of suffering. You will experience times of sobbing. You will experience times of scorn. So, how do you endure? How do you withstand the assaults? How do you handle this intense spiritual warfare? How do you fight the good fight of faith?
