Today, we are talking to Daniela Ellerbeck, Legal Advisor to Freedom of Religion South Africa (or “FOR SA” for short), about the Department of Home Affairs’ new single marriage law, commonly known as the “Marriage Bill”. The Bill has been the subjected of much debate in the religious community and was open for the public’s comment until 31 August 2023. Since the Department’s initial announcement that it was planning to establish a new policy foundation for regulating all marriages in South Africa, FOR SA has been fully engaged to help ensure that the right to religious freedom is respected and protected.
