He is an advocate for balanced rental housing policy at various levels of government including speaking as a witness at the parliamentary committee on rental housing (HUMA) in June of this year where he identified the following key causes:The condominium act of 1967The federal tax reforms of 1972Rent Control of 1975 (which was aggravated by the tax reforms of 1972)The result was vacancy rates falling from 6% before 1972 to about 2% from 1975 onwards.We discuss why there is so little, why so expensive, what the government mistakes for us here, and what we desperately need to do to solve this situation.
