Bridging Healthcare Gaps with Melanatal App feat. Ruby & Maggie | Entry Level Mums

from Entry Level Mums · host Nasra and Sawiya

In this episode, we sit down with Ruby, (Midwife and Entrepreneur) and Maggie, (Midwife and Race Equity Lead) talk about Melanatal! It is an app which aims to bridge critical gaps in maternity and neonatal care for Black and Brown women. We discussed the challenges observed in recognising symptoms like jaundice, chickenpox, and mastitis on darker skin tones, and Ruby shares her journey from being a midwifery student to NHS Clinical Entrepreneur Programme participant. Inspired by her eye-opening experiences during a placement in Ghana and with the help of her associate Maggie, Ruby developed Melanatal as a tool to raise awareness and improve diagnostic accuracy for diverse skin tones in maternal healthcare.
