Bridging The Gap # 41: Floyd Favel answers a question asked by Teresa Peterson...

from Radio Aula Mundi · host Radio Aula Mundi

Floyd Favel (Plains Cree from Poundmaker Cree Nation) is a theater artist, educator, knowledge keeper, and writer. Plains Indian Sign Language (PISL), or Hand Talk, was a complex means of communication in North America. PISL plays an important role in Favel’s research, as well as in the annual Poundmaker Indigenous Performance Festival directed by Favel. “Floyd Favel clearly prides himself in his knowledge of the Cree language as his mother tongue and first language before English and indicates that the Plains Sign Language is his second language, also before English. He is going to tell us more about the Plains Sign Language and sign language in general, which has been around since the beginning of mankind.” Excerpt from one of the most recent manuscripts of the ‘Universal Phrasebook Of Indigenous Languages’ (UPIL) http://radioaulamundi.website3.me/the-universal-phrasebook-of-indigenous-languages-upil https://whydonate.com/en/fundraising/upil ••• https://www.concordia.ca/faculty/floyd-favel.html https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=dxHLKQ2A-YA ••• Teresa Peterson, Utuhu Cistinna Win, is Sisseton Wahpeton Dakota and member of the Upper Sioux Community.
