Robert Madden, author and archaeologist: “What was your favorite children’s game?”

Robert Madden is an author and archaeologist at Colorado State University in Fort Collins. For many years, he sifted through existing records of Native American artifacts to look for the oldest dice in the United States. Jerod Tate: “What’s the coolest sound you’ve heard recently…?”

Jerod Impichchaachaaha’ Tate is a Chickasaw classical composer and pianist. His compositions are inspired by North American Indian history, culture, and language. Among many recent premieres, Tate’s highlights include commissions from the New York Philharmonic and Turtle Island Quartet. On August 15, 2025, the Dover Quartet released their newest album ‘Abokkoli Taloowa’ (Woodland Songs), which features two new suites of music by Jerod Tate in addition to a string quartet by the late 19th, early 20th century Czech composer Antonín Dvo’ák. ‘Abokkoli Taloowa’ (Woodland Songs) contains five movements, each representing a different woodland creature. Preceding this composition on the album is Tate’s orchestral arrangement of Tuscarora-Taino singer-songwriter Pura Fé’s ‘Rattle Songs’, a piece in seven movements. Pura Fé is one of the founding members of Ulali, an indigenous women’s group of oral musicians who combine native roots and contemporary styles with vocals, stomping, and rattling turtle shells. Jerod Tate is currently at work on a new violin concerto for acclaimed violinist Irina Muresanu, as well as new works for the Oklahoma City Philharmonic and North Carolina Symphony Orchestra. ••• https://jerodtate.com/ https://m.youtube.com/jerodtatevideos https://www.doverquartet.com/ https://jerodtate.com/woodland-songs/ https://www.curtis.edu/100-for-100/rattle-songs/ ••• Interview conducted by Marco Rixecker https://www.amazon.com/author/marcorixecker ••• Radio Aula Mundi, October 2025 https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PL0J-iNFOJ5e7pEH8ldsVqlM272Ly4wwBQ&si=Db9cnIDPtz9uNC8O ••• At the moment, Radio Aula Mundi is an evolving podcast station where no language and all languages are spoken… It’s a multilingual mix of music, poetry, lectures, languages, interviews, documentaries, recipes, and a lot more, co-produced with the students of the ‘Aula Mundi International Cultural Center’…••• Radio Aula MundiCentro Cultural & Turistico Aula MundiAula Mundi Cultural Travel Centerhttps://linktr.ee/radioaulamundi •••

Hataałii is a Diné (Navajo) singer, songwriter, and poet born Hataałiinez Wheeler in Window Rock, AZ, the capital of the Navajo Nation. Singers are medicine men who perform traditional healing ceremonies and blessing rites intended to protect and cure the body, mind, and spirit. Hataałii's music focuses on obscurantist details giving way to trenchant observations about paranoia, accountability, and postcolonial fallout. Hataałii also confronts the nuanced challenges and perceptions around the indigenous community.
