Building the Temple & Paul Preaches the History of Jesus | Day 170

from The Bible in a Year Podcast with Scott Purcell

How does God construct a place where His presence can dwell? Today on Day 170, we transition from the silent engineering of a grand stone temple to the dynamic proclamation of an eternal spiritual kingdom. In 1 Kings, Solomon begins constructing the highly anticipated Temple of God. Built with massive stones dressed at the quarry, the temple rises in reverent silence, lined with pure gold and intricate carvings, signaling that the holy Creator is moving into a permanent home among His people. In the book of Acts, we travel with Paul and Barnabas to Antioch in Pisidia. Stepping into the synagogue, Paul delivers a masterclass sermon that mirrors the architecture of Israel's history. He traces God's hand from the Exodus through the era of David, declaring that the ultimate, living Temple of God has arrived in Jesus—whom the leaders crucified, but whom God raised from the dead, offering a justification that the Law of Moses could never provide.Today’s Scripture:📖 1 Kings 6:1–7:22 – Construction on the Temple begins 480 years after the Exodus. Incredibly, no hammer, axe, or iron tool is heard at the building site, as every stone is perfectly pre-cut at the quarry. The interior is overlaid with pure gold, carved with cherubim, palm trees, and open flowers. God promises Solomon that if he remains obedient, He will dwell among the Israelites. Solomon then builds his own palace complex and commissions a craftsman named Huram to fashion two massive, artistic bronze pillars named Jachin and Boaz for the temple porch.📖 Acts 13:13–41 – John Mark abruptly leaves the mission group to return to Jerusalem. Paul and Barnabas push forward to Antioch in Pisidia. Invited to speak in the synagogue, Paul outlines Israel's history, pointing directly to King David, and announces that God has brought to Israel a Savior, Jesus, from David's seed. Paul emphasizes that though Jerusalem's leaders executed Jesus, God raised Him, fulfilling the Messianic promises of the Psalms and opening the door for the forgiveness of sins.📖 Psalm 75:1–10 – A song of thanksgiving celebrating God's timely, righteous judgment: "At the set time that I appoint I will judge with equity." The psalmist warns the arrogant not to lift up their horns, declaring that promotion comes from God alone, who puts down one and exalts another.RESOURCES & READ-ALONG📺 Watch on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLYKi8-_5xHGL_nFAZOthHtZhcb4CqW4ZF📖 Follow the Text (LEB): https://biblia.com/books/leb/🗓️ Download the Full Plan: https://www.biblica.com/resources/reading-plans/CONNECT & SUPPORT📧 Questions?
