Cancer Survivor Brooks Bell On Getting Excited About Colonoscopies

from The WECAN Podcast

In this inspiring SheCan Media interview, Stephanie sits down with Brooks Bell to discuss colon cancer, early detection and why screenings matter. Brooks Bell is an entrepreneur, cancer survivor, and advocate for health equity. “5 years ago, I couldn't have predicted that I would spend the second half of my career simply trying to talk people into getting a colonoscopy. But here we are.” Brooks launched Brooks Bell Inc. when AOL was still “the Internet” and A/B testing was nearly a decade ahead of its time. For 16 years, she led her firm and worked with some of the nation’s most recognisable brands, helping them innovate through experimentation and optimisation. In 2011, she co-founded Raleigh Founded, now the city’s largest entrepreneur community, to inspire and support the next generation of founders. But everything changed in 2019. At the age of 38, Brooks was diagnosed with stage 3 colon cancer. After six months of surgery and high-dose chemo, she was fortunate to have caught it in time. Yet she soon realised her story was not unique—colon cancer is far more common than most people realise. Even more importantly, it’s one of the few major cancers that can be proactively prevented through early detection. Today, Brooks has shifted her focus to one of the most challenging yet crucial missions of her life: preventing colon cancer and promoting health equity. She works alongside leading organisations and co-founded Worldclass Clothing, a bold apparel brand that sparks conversations around colonoscopies while funding access to care for underinsured communities. Her message is clear: One in three people already have precancerous polyps by age 45. Don’t wait. Get your colonoscopy as early as possible.
