Capillaroscopy abnormalities in #LongCovid

This research examines microvascular changes in patients experiencing long COVID compared to those who recovered without persistent symptoms and a healthy control group. Using nailfold videocapillaroscopy (NVC), the study found that long COVID patients exhibited significant abnormalities such as dilated capillaries, microhaemorrhages, and reduced capillary density, which were not present to the same extent in recovered patients. Notably, pre- and post-COVID-19 NVC analysis on the same individuals revealed a worsening of microvascular damage after infection, suggesting a potential contributing factor to long COVID symptoms.
