Carmen Barradas, nombre artístico de María del Carmen Pérez Giménez compositora y pianista uruguaya, nació en Montevideo un 18 de marzo de 1888. Carmen junto a su hermano gozaron del permiso de sus padres para estudiar música y arte. En 1915 obtuvo el título de profesora de piano y un año más tarde, ella y su familia se trasladaron a España hasta 1922. Durante su estadía estreno varias obras para piano que fueron pioneras en la utilización de escritura y gráficas no tradicionales, adelantándose a su época. Fue una compositora de gran originalidad, en constante búsqueda de enriquecimiento del lenguaje musical. En 1928, regreso a Montevideo donde siguió su producción musical alternándola con su actividad docente, dejando de componer en 1949. A continuación escucharemos de esta música uruguaya su obra Aserradero interpretada por Patricia Mendoza en el piano.
