Carol Gokee is the co-director of the International Leonard Peltier Defense Committee. Leonard  Peltier is one of the most prominent and longest-serving political  prisoners in the United States and the world. As a Native American  activist and member of 'AIM' (American Indian Movement), he is serving a  life sentence for the murder of two FBI agents in the 1970's after  having been convicted in a controversial trial. His story has inspired  many books and movies, including the documentary 'Incident At Oglalla'  and the Hollywood movie 'Thunderheart' starring Val Kilmer, Sam  Sheppard, Graham Greene, and John Trudell. Leonard Peltier is  suffering from many ailments and has recently been tested positive for  COVID-19 after unmasked guards had served him his meals in prison. Carol  Gokee is of Anishnaabe descent and a close friend of Peltier's since  her childhood.
