Carpal Tunnel Get Relief Without Surgery

from The Soil Matters With Leighton Morrison · host Ken Somerville

Carpal tunnel syndrome is usually treated like a wrist problem. Brace the wrist. Inject the wrist. Operate on the wrist. But the median nerve does not begin at the wrist. It starts in the neck and travels through the shoulder, arm, elbow, forearm, wrist, and into the hand. That means numbness, tingling, burning, weakness, or pain in the hand may involve more than one area along the nerve pathway. This is where the idea of a “double crush” comes in. A nerve may be irritated higher up near the neck or shoulder while also being compressed at the wrist. If only the wrist is treated, part of the problem may still be there. We also break down what carpal tunnel surgery actually does. The surgeon cuts the transverse carpal ligament—the ligament that forms the roof of the carpal tunnel—to create more space for the median nerve.Sometimes surgery is necessary, especially when there is severe nerve damage, muscle wasting, constant numbness, or progressive weakness. But before permanently altering the structure of the wrist, shouldn’t someone evaluate the entire path of the nerve? In this episode, we discuss:• What carpal tunnel syndrome really is• How double crush syndrome may contribute• What happens during carpal tunnel surgery• Why symptoms may continue or return• How the neck, shoulder, elbow, forearm, and wrist can all play a role• Why conservative chiropractic care may be worth exploring before surgeryThe wrist may be where the symptoms end, but it may not be where the problem begins.Sign up for our newsletter: https://lp.constantcontactpages.com/sl/AwGmSeQ/ChiropracticIsSexyCONNECT w Dr. Ruffin!https://drruffin.com/https://www.instagram.com/drpaularuffin/https://www.facebook.com/drpaularuffinCONNECT w Dr Peabody:https://www.cafeoflifefenton.com/meet-the-doctors/ https://www.instagram.com/drericapeabody/https://www.facebook.com/erica.peabodyDisclaimer: The contents of this video are for informational purposes only and are not intended to be medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment, nor to replace medical care.
